Default Stereo/Speakers

I am new to the board and fairly new to working with golf carts so please forgive me in advance...

I have recently purchased an 05 Precedent and have a long list of upgrades planned for the cart (most of which have been requested by my wife). One of the main upgrades she has requested is to install a stereo and speakers. Unfortunately, I am somewhat of a perfectionist when it comes to stereos as I did car stereo installations for years. I've been searching the internet for dashes but all of them I have found for the Precedent have 3 compartments therefore the only option would be to install it within the compartment. First question is... Does anyone know of a kit for the Precedent that is either designed or can be "customized" to fit a radio in the center of the dash? IF anyone has a picture of a dash they are using with a stereo pictures would be awesome.

The second question I came upon is speaker placement. So far the only way I have really seen to add speakers is to build custom fiberglass pods or kickpanels to hold the speaker. I've seen custom carts for sell online saying they have 5 1'4's and 6x9's and I am just trying to get some ideas of where people are placing them (pictures would be nice).

My third question is in regards to power. I know that there are voltage reducers on the market but is that really necessary since this cart has 12volt batteries. Could one not come off of just one battery to do this?

Thanks,

Lee

I am new here too, but I will help with what i can.

I don't know about the Precedent's dashes, but having the radio in the glove compartment is a good idea IMHO. Protects them from getting stolen, also protects them from the elements some.

If you have a top, they make consoles that fit on the roof that holds the radio and the speakers.

You can just hook up to one of the batteries if you have 12v batteries.

Hopefully someone else chimes in here too.

Do a search on the home page for a radios, there are several threads about installing them.

I would recommend getting a voltage reducer. You can pull off just 1 battery but will not last as long as the others and if the voltage gets to low in the one battery the cart will not preform well.

Thanks. The glove compartment idea is a good however if someone really wants the radio that bad they can still get to it easily so I figure there's not better protection for that than my locked garage. I have also seen the console that connect to the roof but I am not a big fan on those. They look ok but I think the dash is more convenient for everything including running wires, etc..

Thanks,

Lee

I have two Precedents and I installed the overhead console on both. But I mounted it to the windshield supports where the top mounts to them, very solid and dont have to worry about getting wet. Dont ever mount to the plastic top. I have seen a car and they mounted some little speakers on each side of the F/R switch I am not a big fan of cutting holes in the body or top.
