Default 1983 club car

Bought a 1983 club car for 100.00 put some used batteries in it and it ran. One of my resister speed coils got very hot and smoking after running it about 50 yards. It is the smallest one on the passenger side. Would it be a coil or would it be a silonoid? Here are some pictures. If I pulled everything off and cleaned good would that help? Any advice would be great. Thanks.

Also where does the orange Wire go on the end. It comes from the pedal box that has the microswitches in it.

The solenoid on the passenger side must not be closing so the current is always flowing through that resistor.

If You are getting +36v on the black activation wire for that solenoid, replace the solenoid.

If You are not getting +36v on the solenoid activation wire, check the corresponding micro-switch inside the speed box.

The orange wire is the +36v for the reverse buzzer.

I'm not around the cart right now but where does the black wire come from on the cart?

Ok I finally got around to messing with cart again. Replaced all 5 solenoids. Replace all wiring.

Speed coils are still getting hot and smoking. I have not checked out the micro switches in the speed box yet. Any other place I should check?

So after new solenoid's new batteries the speed coils are all getting really hot and still smoking. Can the speed coils go bad?
