So what's was the reasoning for the tarp?

I'm thinking it was one of those magical physics defying tarps. You cover your batteries with it and it keeps your batteries from discharging.

I read it as the tarp was over the cart to protect it from the elements.

Me too - meaning nothing else was done specifically to/for the batteries.

Your batteries are holding a good charge for being idol for 8 plus months. It would be hard for me to go that long without charging. For cart owners with 12 volt batteries in long term storage I would disconnect the pack's main
(+) & (-) connections and switch the jumper wires to a parallel configuration between the batteries and charge the pack with a 45 watt solar panel with charge controller. I do this on my camper battery system and it works good.

That is correct! Normally the Campground allows us to store carts in the Rec Hall but over the winter they had to replace floor so we had to store outside and tarp!

Luv it. Nothing like a good family ran campground, where everyone is watching out for everyone.
