Old cart want GO

Hey guys I post my intro and I'm ready to start asking questions.

Let me first say I've viewed some of the post but can't find anything towards my problem or cart.

I have an old cart, don't know the year, it's a club car with the three pedals.
It has 6 batteries and 5 solenoids. I replace three of the batteries and the cart charged and ran fine. A week or so ago something happened it quit!!! When I was looking to see what happen one of the batteries had a melt down, it looks like the bottom of the seat (which is metal) might have touched the battery post and caused it to shot and the post to melt. I replaced that battery but have not been able to get the cart to run. After charging I checked all the batteries and they were good. I took a test light and touched each solenoid with the power on. One side the light would light the other side the solenoid would click and the light would light. That's about all the knowledge I know about these things. So I need any suggestions has to what to check etc. Thanks in advance for ANY help!!!

I can't seem to find any numbers on the cart. I will be looking again because I printed out the Caroche Golf Carts serial guide and will look again for any of these numbers.

I do have a volt meter. I just don't know how to use it, like what do I touch to get the meter to work. If I touch the pos and neg of the battery should it read 6 volts? if you have time give me a short lesson. And what to check to make sure the currect volts are getting to the solenoids etc. And suggest what all I should check. I've never had this thing apart to actually see what all it has. I know it has 6 batteries and 5 solenoids and a motor down there somewhere.

1975 thru 1980
The serial number tag is located… under the seat on the driver’s side of the car, on the aluminum I-beam frame rail, next to the two batteries. If there serial number tag happens to be missing, you can identify these carts by the fact that they have three foot pedal controls. One is a regular brake, the other, a parking brake, and the third pedal, the accelerator.

The serial number code is arranged as follows: A78XX – XXXXX. In this sequence, the A designates it as an electric model, which is the only model they made (No gas powered carts in those years). The next two numbers are the year of manufacture. In the example above, it would have been manufactured in 1978.

1981 thru today (DS Model)
The serial number tag is located…on the dash board just below the right side glove box, and above the floor mat. These carts can be distinguished from their older 1975 thru 1980 cousins, having only two foot pedal controls. One is a brake, the other, an accelerator.

The serial number code is arranged as follows: A84XX – XXXXX or, AG89 – XXXXX. The letters may vary but with either arrangement, the first two numbers are the year of manufacture.

I thought I would post up what I found to be the problem with my cart. In the first post I stated it was a old cart (197?) still don't know can't find any numbers. But that wasn't the point, it wouldn't run that was the problem. I actually went to a golf cart shop and asked a service tech if he could help me. I explained that a battery shorted on the bottom of the seat and I replaced the battery and now it wouldn't run. His first response was that I put the battery in wrong. Which I assured him I did not! I told him I could mash the gas pedal and here the solenoids click - which he told me those where the micro-switches clicking. He said with the battery shorting out all I should have to do was replace the battery and it should work fine. But he explained that the Caroaches used micro-switches and solenoids to run (they do not have a controller which is a good thing because they are expensive!! He went on to explain a lot of things about the cart. The bottom line was he handed me a 36v solenoid and told me to replace the first one on the left (driver side) and that would fix the problem. I replaced that solenoid and the cart runs fine now. Since he didn't charge me for the soleniod I went back and took him to lunch the next day. But just to let anyone know that has a Caroach cart the first soleniod on the left is the one that gives the go signal.

Yes, that 5 solenoid system was in use for many years and the solenoid closest to the driver's side of the cart is the master. f it doesn't close then none of the 4 speed selector solenoids get power to the big terminal.... it is an okay system.... the problem with it is it is over complicated. There is a micro switch for each one of the 5 solenoids in a box at the end of the gas peddle linkage....which is a pain in the butt to get open...but when they work they are reliable....Good Luck and enjoy
