Loading ramps for stock cart?
Hey guys,
Lots of people use the regular ramps you can buy at lowes/walmart etc. to load their lifted carts. I know you are supposed to get longer ramps with arches for carts. I am looking for a set of ramps that wont cost me a fortune, that I also wont hi-center with my stock height cart. This thing only has a few inches of clearance. I do have a stock full size pickup. |

Re: Loading ramps for stock cart?
For years I used a couple of 8ft 2x8 with the aluminum ramp ends bolted on. Sometimes I had to find a curb or a hill to reduce the angle. ZORO sells em for $10 ea ALUM RAMP PLATE

Reese 1500 pound arched aluminum loading ramps work great on my non lifted precedent. I highly recommend them.
I also have 3/4 plywood sheet for tailgate support insurance that starts behind wheel wells and extends to tip of open tailgate. |

I got this from Amazon. Works fine. Note that one of my carts I use it to load is an electric 60's era Cushman whose body is made from steel. It's heavy. The ramp handles it fine. I prefer the one full-size ramp rather than two skinny ones as I can use it for pretty much any application to include 3 wheel carts. I mainly use it to store my carts on a covered deck over the winter but I have also used it for off / on pickup trucks as well. |

Re: Loading ramps for stock cart?
I used a set of 8' 2x12's and they cracked and popped every single time I loaded my cart... I even screwed a 2x2 strip underneath for bracing. I broke down and bought a trailer now, but if I were to do ramps again I would spend the money are arched aluminum ones as mentioned above. The only thing worse than getting high-centered is having ramps break underneath you.

Re: Loading ramps for stock cart?
I was a carpenter for 30 some years. My boards are clear tight grain.
You can't choose knotty open grain wood for a man's job I'm just saying for cheap - mine worked good. I have 9ft arched aluminum ramps and a drive onto tilt trailer too |

Re: Loading ramps for stock cart?
Yea the stupid part about all this is that I have a utility trailer. But my wife and I are staying at a cabin on the rappahannock river and I can't tow my boat AND the golf cart. So we will load the cart into the bed and put our luggage in car topper bags in the boat :)
Do you us take your cart rooves off? I read somewhere that they don't like high winds.... |
