Precedent Controller Mounting
Trying to mount 400 amp controller in precedent. It is much larger than OEM.
I can mount it sideways on the plate but it is very close to OBC. Will that be a problem? It there a better way to mount it? |

Re: Precedent Controller Mounting
That location will have no effect on the OBC. I have the 2006 Precedent and installed one on that tight center plate with OBC. No issues. There is one section of the 1268 that FSIP doesn't want you to run power cables. It is shown in the attached manual. Section 2 page 7.

Re: Precedent Controller Mounting
I didn't look close at your picture the first reply. Can you rotate the controller counter clockwise 90° and mount it? That would help it lay flat on the aluminum backplate instead of ovelapping the OBC plate. See page 2-5 for info on the mouinting surface and thermal compound use.

Re: Precedent Controller Mounting
If I rotate controller it hangs off bottom edge of plate and the there is a lip on the cover box that holds the controller off further.
Is there another 400 amp controller that will fit in that space without a lot of mods? I'll use this monster on a DS, there's plenty of room to mount it. |

Re: Precedent Controller Mounting
I mounted the Curtis on an old Precedent I used to have but I never took pictures. It's do-able, but it's tight. Just make sure the controller is sitting flat against the aluminum plate. Do not space it off the plate. It relies on the plate to dissipate heat out of the controller. If it's not making solid contact on the plate, the heat will stay in the controller and cause problems. If the OBC is interfering with the mounting of the controller, remove the OBC and mount it to the front of the panel. Grind off the excess bolt stickng through the OBC mounting holes and mount the controller flush to the plate. Just be sure to leave a 1/4" gap all the way around the controller for clearance issues when installing the panel.

Re: Precedent Controller Mounting
TDawg, While I was reading your reply, I realized I could move OBC plate to front of mounting plate and rivet from backside to get better contact on controller to plate. That will get rid of bolt.
My main problem is the connectors coming off the top of controller. OEM connectors come from side of controller. At this point it's more of a height problem. Did your install have top mounted connectors? Thanks, Muddog |

Re: Precedent Controller Mounting
OK, that was a rukus.
Thanks guys for your imput. Got it wired and mounted. Now I have a small problem. It goes reverse when forward and forward when in reverse. I have orange on the center terminal of F/R switch and I swapped the blue and brown on outside terminals and it made no difference. Which wires do I have backwards? |
