Default Upgrade 84 DS WOT Cuts Out!

Lets first lay out the setup:

8 x 6v Batteries for 48V system
700 amp FSIP Controller (FS700-0 51-42L700NN0S Series 700 amp 36-48 volts 0 - 5k Club Car 0 - 5k (2 wire))
HD 48V Solenoid
6 Inch Lift
23 Inch Tires
New Style Kawasaki Rear End
48V 3.10 HP Special Service Motor

Here's my issue, at WOT it temporarily loses power (like a brown out) and then seems to recover (sometimes). I've read several posts around here but not 100% knowing what throttle I have might be an issue. 2 Things it could be?

1. Wires from throttle to Controller are either switched or have a bad connection.

2. Controller is over-amping the system. I have read that my 700 amp controller might need to be turned down?

Any help would be appreciated.

FYI, the same thing happened with my 36v OG motor, just not near as much and not near as profound

I think you are over driving you Stock motor with the 700 amp controller.
I think ScottyB recommends 300 amp max on the stock GE motor if that is what you have.
Not sure how the FSIP controller is interfaced to turn it down.

Sounds like you are ready for a new beefy motor!

Some else will chime in I am sure.

WoW! I am surprised you have not smoked that stock motor yet, but rest assured, it soon will fail and the new one should surely cure your problem.

I am not sure how adjustable your FSIP controller is, but that is way too much amperage for that little motor....

You need to turn the controller down (300-400 amps max) or soon you'll be motorless.

I would not worry about the amps, after all the old style "no controller" had a virtually unlimited amp output (just don't stall the cart with Your foot at WOT).

You should however set the CA only as high as You can tell/feel the difference in acceleration.

Set Your meter to resistance setting, 20kΩ if not auto-select.

Turn key OFF.

Disconnect the 2 wires coming from the throttle to the controller and measure the resistances as you slowly press the pedal.

Pay attention to the resistance as you first hear the micro-switch close until WOT.

If you see 0L on the meter, that is a problem as it indicates an Open Line and not .

Post your measurements so we know the throttle is working right.

Sergio is right - of course. THe battery pack likely can't give up 700a at any one time anyway. It sounds to me like your pot is out of adjustment and likely over range. I think the control will drop out when the signal exceeds 6000 Ω
PS 4700 is as good as 5500 to this unit.
The controller output will be max anywhere in this range

This can be done, but how do I measure what amps I have it dialed to.

The series motors a much more forgiving (amperage-wise) than the sepex motor you read about here mostly now.

We use to run this combo for people who knew they wanted a bigger motor later...... lots of em lasted years and years and years ...... and never got replaced. Of course I dialed most of them back to 500a but any fool with a screwdriver could turn em full up

How can I measure the amp output?
