Why a Silicon Rectifier Diode in IQ wire
Am helping a friend repair a wiring harness for his DS IQ and see that in the one "sonic weld" joint is a silicon rectifier diode. It is between 4 wires from tow switch, key switch, fwd/rev switch, rev. buzzer and 2 to the OBC and Controller. I can understand the need for a diode to prevent reverse current but why a rectifier diode on a DC circuit. Part # MR754 ??

Re: Why a Silicon Rectifier Diode in IQ wire
This is only a guess, but in some of our emergency DC back-up equipment we use rectifier diodes as the rectifier is used as a filter per se to clean up the current supply to the DC motors to make it as smooth as possible with little to no variation.
If that leg also runs back to the controller, it could be that. Other than that, I have no other ideas.... |

Another guess would be that it is used to insure that whichever way the input wires are connected the output will always be the correct polarity.

Re: Why a Silicon Rectifier Diode in IQ wire
The IQ controllers had an issue when the cart engaged the "Regen Brake" to control the speed, it would sometimes depending on the battery charge cause a false error condition.
Club Car came out with a field modification called the "Main dropout" harness for the earlier IQ carts. They later installed a diode inline with the Controller "Aux Power" for subsequent years until the diode was finally incorporated into the Controller. If the existing diode on the circuit (internal or external) has failed, the cart will power OFF the solenoid on certain occasions when the Regen brake is engaged. |
