In Search Of Wheel Cover Retention Clips
Tooling along last night and suddenly I have one wheel more than I have wheel covers - one of 'em fell off. Went back and got the escapee, and on examination, I see it's missing some of the little retainer clips, and the ones still in it have been silicone-sealed in place. Checked the others, and discovered in have a total of 6 clips on four wheels. I've search high and low, and can't find replacements. Anybody know where I can get some. Here's a picture of one of the few I have:

Re: In Search Of Wheel Cover Retention Clips
Okay, I think I found a super-cheap solution: I bought a box of paper binder clips - these things: https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon....311832744_.jpg - at Walmart. I think the ones I got were 1-3/4" wide. Using a pair of tin snips, I first cut it in half lengthwise at the center of the top of the clip, so I have two mirror-image pieces. Then I cut each end off - the part that holds the little metal "handles" you use to squeeze the clip open. Then I cut each of the two remaining pieces in half widthwise. This left me with four equal sort-of-L-shaped pieces. The long leg fits into the hole in the wheel cover, and the short leg straddles the outside edge of the hole. I used epoxy to glue the clip into the hole so it doesn't fall out when you tip it over. Silicone probably would work, or even a piece of rubber or something pliable just to wedge it in there. I installed the wheel covers, and they seem to be nice and tight. Using this method, I was able to get 4 wheel cover clips per one paper binder clip.

Re: In Search Of Wheel Cover Retention Clips
Outstanding idea. Use the remaining clips to hold your used paper towels on the line while they dry for re-use.
Seriously if you need some of those clips PM me and I will send you some. Clever idea! |

Re: In Search Of Wheel Cover Retention Clips
Hello tnd, Welcome to BGW.
Glad you found a solution for your wheel cover clip. Great use of imagination. Not everyone can turn a paper binder into a hubcap clip. I bet nobody has done that before. As you can see by CTD's post, we're here to help and exchange information. On here, sometimes you'll ask and sometimes you'll answer. Unfortunately some answers are more irrelevant than others, those you just have to disregard. We're glad you're here and with your problem solving skill, you'll probably be answering more questions than you're asking. In the meantime, don't hesitate to ask. Welcome,Muddog |

Re: In Search Of Wheel Cover Retention Clips
Thanks, Muddog. Sorry I didn't reply earlier; I just saw this. I'm all about finding a cheaper way to do something if it doesn't compromise functionality.

Re: In Search Of Wheel Cover Retention Clips
Thanks, moon, but with the purchase of those binder clips, I'm pretty sure I have a lifetime supply of hub cap clips.
Thanks for the offer, though. Sorry for the late reply; I didn't see it until now. DD |
