Default Late 80s Club Car electric 36 volt.

I went out to do some yardwork today, climbed up into my late 80s Club Car, turned the key on, stared to move and turned the steering wheel. Wheels do not move. WT............!!Overnight my steering is gone. Steering wheel simply turns rather freely.
Before I go get the coveralls on, what should I look for?

This is my gun cart and yard machine. Carries guns, ammo, and equipment on weekends and miscellaneous lawn tools during the week.

Need to clear some brush soon:)

PS: Looks to so simple as a new steering wheel. It was loose at the nut and the teeth are kind a smooth. Well...........real smooth.

So was it the steering wheel?

If not, check the universal joints on the steering shaft and see if the bolt has back out and allowing it to free-wheel. If all that is tight and turning with the steering wheel, then something in the rack has failed and will require more invasive investigation.

Once I removed the steering wheel from the spline, I saw that the top of the inside of the steering wheel was almost smooth. No splines. I flipped the steering wheel (splines were good on the bottom) placed it on the spline and it works. Hurray, I get a new steering wheel:).
