Where do all you guys clean your batteries?
I am need of cleaning off my batteries and battery trays. I don't want to stain my drive way, garage, or the street. I don't have any dirt or gravel areas on the property.
So that leaves me with "wash it off in the grass"... is baking soda/acid/water mix going to kill my grass? I have good grass i would like to not kill. |

Yes I think it is likely that it would kill the grass (or at least make it sick). Is there any waste dumping area in your neighbourhood? You may be able to do it there or how about a local golf club? If you ask nicely they may let you wash it down where they normally do theirs.

Best I can do for waste dumping area, is head over to the construction side of the neighborhood. But I would have to bring buckets of water or something in my truck and just delay my problem till next year

It wont hurt the grass.
I also wouldn't do the baking soda deal either. Straight water, hose the box out at least once a month and your good to go. |

Trojan, Crown, and U.S. Battery all recommend using baking soda to clean the batteries. I suggest following the manufacturers recommendations available on their websites.

Re: Where do all you guys clean your batteries?
I've been cleaning with baking soda mix in spray bottle and hose on the grass for years here in Florida and my St. Augustine grass has never died. I avoid the driveway and sidewalk at all costs before it dries or I've gotten some staining on the pavement.

Re: Where do all you guys clean your batteries?
We use a battery cleaner spray by Deka. It foams up and dissolves corrosion and lifts acid & dirt residue. Then hose off.
My partner used to do a hundred of these cleaning services a year on peoples front lawns in the country club without lawn issues. For best results use a leaf blower to dry before driving back onto the pavement that dripping may stain. Spray Deka battery terminal protector on when dry. |
