club cart rearend making a clicking noise
Hi eveyone my first post ,I have a 97 48 volt club cart that is making a clicking noise . It sounds like either the motor or where the motor attaches to the transaxle. I just replaced the motor with a used one from e-bay still the same noise. I than pulled the motor again and than the rearend just to check it out .The rearend seems to turn smooth by hand, not sure that maybe when it is turning with more rpms it is screwed up. I did notice that the guide ring on the used motor I installed spins freelly and I was told that not suppose to spin it also looks a little worn. Could this be causing the clicking noise .Also is it safe to raise the rearend up on jacks and check the motor while on the jack. I heard you should never free wheel the motor on a club cart motor this can burn up the bearings. Thank you

Re: club cart rearend making a clicking noise
I think you may be lucky and others will add in also, but those guide rings/bumpers do make clicking noises as they get worn, I have seen a couple posts about it here. Also they are a real Bitc* to get out when the glue is still intact...but since yours is spinning freely--you are one lucky person. Its under $5 from Club Car and get the glue also and install a new one, nothing to lose but five bucks and some time. BUT YES THAT MAY VERY WELL BE YOUR CAUSE and your original motor may have had a worn one also but it was stuck in place still.

Re: club cart rearend making a clicking noise
Thanks , Boy I really hope that is all it is. the cart seems to go fine except for the loud clicking noise. Has anyone ever heard of damaged to the motor if you place on jacks to test. I was told that you need to have a load on the motor or you burn up the bearing I myself have never heard of this. Also how would you get the guide ring off if it is glued on,thinking I will replace the one on the original motor to. Thanks

Ah lift it up and run it hard ....... and fast ..... and continuous Better yet ........ Look at this one before you start. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...-exploder.html ..... Just TAP the (gas) pedal to make sure the wheels on your cart move, then for Christ sake, put it on the ground. Granted the pic is of an EZGO but I'm sure the configs behind the motors aren't that different. Do a search then read ........... and keep asking questions until you're sure about the answer. |

Re: club cart rearend making a clicking noise
Thanks, this site is so good .I really hope that is it . I have the rearend and motor off my cart and on my bench so I can get a better look Im also going to replace the springs with heavy duty so I thought this woudl be a good time.. when I turn the hub on the rearend and it turns freely.the guide ring on the motor is spinning on the motor spline so i took it off and will order a new guide ring. The ring looks tapered and a little worn . Can you tell me what type of glue should I use to install guide ring. when I turn the axle I can here the gears turning is that normal also .Thanks guy's

Re: club cart rearend making a clicking noise
It was my thread that Oxfordlawn found. My 96 48V drove me crazy. Checked everything then finally got wise & asked these friends for help (Lockmann & CCJohn). The Guide ring cost me 3.95 @ Club Car dealer. Take the old ring with you ( pull the snap ring with needle nose pliers) because there was a differenct one on older CCs Pick up a small tube of weather strip cement or permatex because the ring is supposed to be glued in. You are lucky it is loose now because it is a bear to get out if glued. If either one are glued pour in some solvent or paint thinner, soak for an hour and it should pull out. Clean everything up good, Put cement on outside of ring and slide in to the motor shaft housing. BE SURE THE GROVES ARE EXACTLY LINED UP WITH MOTOR SHAFT GROVES. Let the glue set up overnight then put the snap ring back in. Put on a good layer of Poly Grease in the groves & on the drive shaft. Slap that hummer together and worry about your next problem!! Good luck.

Re: club cart rearend making a clicking noise
Ron-Noise does speed up with the RPMs of the rear end. The guide ring appears to be designed to take the slop out of the front end of the motor armature. I am sure the new guide ring will cure the problem. Too bad you pulled the rear end out but it is going to be easier to feed the motor shaft sleeve back onto the spline when you have it on the bench. I did mine from under the cart - UGH!!! BE SURE THOSE GROOVES ARE LINED UP. and guide ring is seated all the way down so that the spring clip can go back into it" slot to hold it in place. You can check by running a small sharp screw driver up & down the edges of the groves on motor shaft & onto the guide ring. Let the glue set 24 hours & then put the spring clip back on to retain the guide ring.By the way, after re-assembly you can run the motor with wheels on & jacked up provided you have good stable blocks to hold it. Have a cold beer handy to celebrate getting rid of that clicking. Good luck. Dick

Re: club cart rearend making a clicking noise
re-read BORIS' post above before you run your motor with wheels on jack stands...if you do it just tap the throttle and don't let the motor run-up to a high speed. I hope this all works out for ya
