Lost Travel Function, . 99 CCDS
My Dad and I both have this issue and we both have 48v CCDS carts with an Alltrax AXE4865 controller. Travel intermittently doesn't work. Sometimes it's forward, sometimes reverse. Mine has gotten to where it won't go in either direction. A few days ago when it happened, I let it sit an hour or so and it mysteriously started working again. Now I can't get it to move. I tried disconnecting the battery pack but it didn't help.
The primary solenoid pulls in and I have full battery voltage to the controller but when the problem is present, the LED on the controller is not illuminated. I have battery pack voltage to the red key-on wire. I've confirmed voltages I just mentioned with a multi meter. My dad replaced his controller with the same one. It still did it. He took it to a local cart repair place. They said "sometimes they loose programming" whatever that means. They got it working though. Not sure if he meant the controller or the OBC. A tech at Alltrax told me via email that their controllers don't simply loose programming. I connected to controller pro and all seemed fine. What can I check nectar? |

Re: Lost Travel Function, please help. 99 CCDS
If the OBC was holding it out it would not pick up the contactor. That is what the OBC disables.....
It is strange you both had the same problem and own the same type controller. I think before I fought it too much I would call Alltrax and talk to their tech support and see if this has occurred before or they have a good troubleshooting procedure. With it losing the LED, I cannot think of anything other then a controller issue but I have not played with that line much. |

The old AXE controls did have a weakness in the molex connector where connection at one or more pins can become intermittent from corrosion due to an excessively moist environment or caused by severe vibration.
Remove the 6 pin molex connector and inspect for burnt or corroded pins. |

Re: Lost Travel Function, please help. 99 CCDS
I'm emailing with Ron Manns at Alltrax to see what they recommend. I'm prepared to ship it to them for testing if there's any remaining warranty. The mfg date is in 2011.
This controller doesn't have a molex connector on it. I just have my motor and battery cables, key and two directional wires, and two other wires going to B- with the large cable and wire from OBC/charger receptacle. All these connections are bolted lugs except for the red, green, and yellow wires that use a spade terminal. We also thought it very strange we have identical set ups and both have the same issue. They're literally twins except 2 years different in age. Same controller, GE D395 beast motor, color, etc. like was said before, since I've confirmed voltages to the controller after the solenoid pulls in while no LED or sign of power up on the controller, what else could it logically be besides the controller? It's got us pretty frustrated. |

Well according to Alltrax, based on my voltage checks, the power supply in my controller is bad. The controller is not serviceable due to the whole inside being potted. Warranty is good for 2 years and unfortunately mine is a 2011. Bummer. Those things aren't cheap.

While on the topic, by general consensus, are there other brands of controllers as good or better (relatively speaking) than Alltrax? Don't get me wrong, I had what I believe to be good service from mine and there's no telling how many miles it's gone but for that kind of cash, I was thinking it could last a little longer. I do like the controller pro programming capabilities alot. Any other comparable brands out there with user programming abilities?

There are some, but not to the level of the new Alltrax series are. The SR series is what would go on your cart now and the Altrax Tool Kit for programming and user adjustments. You can look around for some others but consensus around here will pretty much be alltax. Good Luck.

Re: Lost Travel Function, . 99 CCDS
Cool, thanks for that info. I actually saw that image on their site recently when I went to download controller pro. I remember thinking it looked pretty wild compared to traditional controllers. I hadn't been in the loop since 5 or 6 years back and it wasn't around back then. So those are made for series carts too? Any major known advantages it has over the AXE or similar?
