2001 Club car DS 48V speed issues
I have a 2001 club car DS and would like to get more speed out of it, it can hit 17MPH on flats now with stock tires which is not bad from what I understand, but would like to get closer to 20. I talked to a local cart place about putting 20.5 tires on it but then he asked for a picture of my motor, so I sent him a picture of my motor and he said it was a high speed motor and should already do 20MPH.
I also have a problem with unsteady speed sometimes, the shop thought my mcor was bad so my motor wasn't getting the right signals. I had replaced the mcor about a year ago to try to steady out the speed and it made no difference. At the shops suggestion I took it off and tested it, at rest it read about 6.8K ohm's and when cranked to the very stop it read 1.25K ohms which from the manual seemed backward, but it works. I don't see a peddle adjustment so not sure when it's on the cart is going to the stops. I would like your opinion on whether this looks to anyone like a high speed motor, and what steps I should take next. Looking at PQ motors but don't want to bother if my motor is already a high speed. Also considering dumping the Curtis controller, but not sure if that's the best bang for the buck. Thanks Bill |

Re: 2001 Club car DS 48V speed issues
I got a reply to the same question from Plum Quick, really nice folks. It is a high speed motor on the DS. and should do better than it is doing. Trying a MCOR 4 conversion first for the DS, and a new motor controller for the precedent.

Re: 2001 Club car DS 48V speed issues
I have a plumb quick bandit motor on my 2001 series cart same issues. I do have a spare MCOR I might have to switch it out and possible try the MCOR4 conversion I had planned on doing that before but just didn't do it.
My batteries are good I have over 51volts on my pack just doesn't do over 16mph with a 6" lift |

Re: 2001 Club car DS 48V speed issues
Guys, one thing you can do to help diagnose MCOR problems is to do this:
With the key off, and the cart in neutral pump the go pedal 20 to 30 times. Try driving the cart again to see if the surging is reduced. As for the bench testing VS the MCOR back in the cart, there is also a known temporary fix using a piece of tubing or wire tie in that MCOR shaft to insure you are receiving full travel. Also read this old post for more repair options: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...-throttle.html Some much more detailed information for you. These are all temporary solutions until you can get a new MCOR from Revolution Golf Cars as CTD suggested above. Aflyer |
