Default Are golf carts submerged in sea water salvageable?

Well, 48V replacement bulbs replacements may soon be the least of my worries with the 2003 CC DS. It's sitting in a garage about 5 feet above sea level in SW Florida completely at the mercy of Irma. Would it be a write-off if it gets completely submerged, or would it be salvageable?

Everything is salvageable. Worst case is batteries, motor and electronics. Frame is aluminum, body is composite, other components are rubber and plastic.

This might open the check book for "Upgrades"....

Or come to think about it, it will be junk and not worth hauling off. In that case call me and I will come pick it up....

Is it salvageable yes... Just remember the frame is aluminium but most every bolt on it is not. Translate that to a lot of rust.. If it does get submerged it would definitely be a project to restore.. Good luck..

Like everybody else in Irma's path we're reduced now to just keeping our fingers crossed. One nice thing about the cart is that every fastener is already rusted! I had to grind off all four motor terminal nuts when I rehabilitated the cable lugs. Same thing with the replacement of the suspension bushings. I'm substituting grade 8 bolts (a little more corrosion resistant than grade 5 in my experience) and 316 stainless as I work on things.

Like everything attacked by salt, the sooner you get it apart and washed and dried out the less damage will be done. Good luck.

I just had the motor off to work on the terminals. I used a nice layer of grease to make removal next time easier. Maybe it'll be enough to keep the water out.

We're not in the state, so we are not in harm's way. I know there a lot of other people on the board are. I hope you and your oved ones all stay safe.
