Default Hurricane victim burns up motor, I Think

Hey guys and gals, I was using my golf cart to go help a friend that had a tree fall through his house. Half way there I ran out of juice and called the wife to come give me a tow. My friends wife lost her dad in the hurricane so our day was a complete wreck already to say the least. Anyways, this guy hooked up the golf cart to the car and put it in neutral and completely forgot about the tow switch next to the batteries. Long story short, I could smell the motor when I got there, charged the batteries for an hour, and it wont move now. My question is, how would you go about fixing this? Do I start by replacing the motor which cost me around $500, or are there some other things I need to do first. Once again, no good deed goes unpunished, now to fix my baby.

Thanks in advance for all of your help.

If you have an Alltrax Blue controller it is protected, you just need a motor.... if you have anything else, you need a motor and controller.

I had a friend whose kids did the same thing to his cart. Pulled the controller cover and the side of the solenoid had melted. In his case everything else looked okay so we fixed the bad cables and threw in a used solenoid. Cart ran

Probably not the norm but worth a look.
