Wiring new lights - maybe neon
I am working on a CC 48v and installing a new light package. The dealer said I did NOT need a reducer and could jsut connect the light using 2 (8v) batteries. It worries me a bit pulling 16 instead of the recomended 12v.
Is this a problem?? Should I get the reducer?? What if I would like to add neon lights in the near future = reducer?? I would hate to add an extra battery in the bag area...that is where the cooler goes... Can I go directly to the batteries?? |

Guys do it all the time and say it's fine. Personally, I would not exceed the rated voltage on the lights, especially the neons.

Re: Wiring new lights - maybe neon
On my Precedent my factory lights are hooked to 12 volts, (just one battery since I have four 12 volt batteries.) I haven't added a reducer since I hardly use my lights and have no real accessories. But if I was adding additional items such as neon lights, radio, etc., I would definitely get a reducer even though I have a solid 12 volt source. As mentioned in threads here many times you can always place a toggle on/off switch on the reducer (+) lead to switch it off when not in use. Voltage is the push and if an electrical item was designed for 12 volts I’m sure most could take an additional push of 16 volts now and then but it’s never good for the long haul, otherwise they would state 12-16 volts.

My guess is if U'r putting neon's on it you will add a radio next then a ...etc..
So you might as well go ahead and get a reducer which uses the whole pack. |
