There are way smarter people here than I, but shaking is a classic sign of batteries being shot. Have you measured them under load?

What are you using to measure the voltage? What are the battery voltages when it comes off the charger? What are they at when it is running slow? Are the batteries full of water and have they been maintained? How old are they?

Sounds like low voltage to me as well.

So I seem to be having this problem to... I think. Our 2006 36V TXT had a new motor installed by our neighbors in 2016, new #2 wires, and 6 fresh Duracell (https://www.batteriesplus.com/batter...ic/na/sligc110) batteries from Batteries + in 2015. We purchased the cart from them June 2017 when they moved. The cart seemed to ride fine for about a month and half and then it left my wife stranded and we trailered it home. On Halloween I wound up pushing it nearly a mile to get it home because again the batteries died. After cleaning every contact, and individually charging each battery I put them all back after resting and settling at 6.42 Volts / battery. Today I took a ride and went about 1/2 mile. I had my voltmeter hooked to the batteries and noticed under load that the voltage dropped to 28.4V. Sure enough the batteries were done moving the cart after this short trip and when I stopped back at home the battery voltage came back to 38.1V then while sitting with the lights on in the driveway the voltage actually rose to 38.5!!! So what gives? Is it a speed controller maybe?

It sounds like the batteries but your voltages look correct. A lot of times your volt meter won't give you an accurate indication of whats going on in the battery. You need to check the specific gravity of the electrolytes in the battery. I've always hated the old timey hydrometers because they need to be temperature compensated and air bubbles give incorrect readings. Might I suggest you purchase a Battery Acid Refractometer and check your SG of the individual cells in your batteries. Here is a link on Amazon if you are interested.
