Storing cart
It is getting close to closing my camper, My cart stays in the shed all winter. 48V DS. Was planing on flipping the tow and leaving it like that. The shed is not heated so will be in the Wisconsin winter temp. I have a Power 3 charger that will kick on to maintain but did not want to leave it like that for 6 months unattended.
Question is should I take off the Neg cable from the pack or is tow/run switch ok? In spring I will check the water and charge level. |

Re: Storing cart
I would leave the charger hooked up. We do it at our hunting camp all the time. That is a long time to let the batteries sit with no charge on them and they will self discharge on their own (and build up sulfates on the plates)
The PD3 will do a maintenance charge every ~15 or so days as long as your OBC is functioning correctly. You will not lose any measurable water over that duration of time and that is what the maintenance cycle is designed to do. |

Re: Storing cart
Buy a Save-A-Battery from Granite Digital. You'll be glad you did.

Re: Storing cart
does the PD3 do a maintenance also. That was what I was told, it will turn on about every 15 days to do a check and top off.
Question was I wont be up for 6 months and will the water be fine? I may get up 1 or 2 times but no guaranty of that. |

Re: Storing cart
The safest option for "unattended" storage is to unhook the pack from the cart.
There is very little self-discharge in cold weather. Make sure you drive the cart and charge it at least 2 or 3 times after adding any water to the batteries prior to storage. You want to make sure any additional water is properly mixed with the existing electrolyte to prevent it from freezing. |

And I am in Florida so I can not submit to not keeping them charged. Our meters tell us how much they discharge when they are just sitting.... We have fridges, freezers, ice machines, A/C units, etc. that are all running and not one of us have ever had an issue with leaving ours hooked up to our chargers and when we get to them, all we have to do is unplug and replug to top the charge off and we are out and running..... |
