Lights inop

I have a newer club car and I installed front and rear lights. They worked for a couple months then quit. I checked the fuses and changed the flasher with no results. What should I do next? Thanks.

I can try and help. First, what model/yr golf car do you have? Did you buy from a local Club Car dealer?

Since you installed it you might try testing for power starting from the battery connection, through the fuse, through the light switch with power on both sides when pulled on, then check the actual junction plugs by unplugging and plugging back together.

Did you install the power relay or did you wire the lights directly to the switch? If you didn't install the relay, you may have have burned up the switch. If you do have the relay installed, you may have lost power to the coil of the relay. The light kit I just installed gets 12v postive from the power source to one side on the coil and the headlight switch makes the ground circuit for the coil in the relay.

some light kits do not need the relay, the relay is for brake lights.. if it doesn't have brake lights it wont have a relay.

I am new here and surely not my intent to step on any toes. To be totally reliable you NEED a relay for the headlights. This way the amp draw from the headlights DOES NOT flow through the switch. I would not wire them direct. A 30A 12V SPST relay is all thats needed. The switch is not intended to handle the amp draw from the lights. It will prematurely fail without the relay.

I knew this before purchasing my headlight kit. I also purchased a brake light switch and turn signals. The brake and tail lights were led and pull no current at all. The brake light does not require a relay and the one that I have switches through the turn sigal assembly.

Todd is correct, been there/ done that. Spend five bucks on the relay, cheaper than a heavy duty switch and easy to wire up, saves a lot of hassles.....

A lighted 15 amp switch is $7. Relays are a hassle, and they fail too. I'm just sayin'.
