Default Charger Dead??

Have a 1990 CC DS with an old 36V Lestronic II. Batteries are about 4 years old, have always been kept topped off, and are kept on a Save-a-Battery when not on the Lestronic.

Was heading to the beach last week so I made sure the batteries were topped off and charged. I rode it around the hood and then charged again. No problems. Headed to the beach fully charged and everything worked fine the first night (charged as expected). The second night, however, I connected the charger and thought it was strange that the next morning, it was still running. Also, it was not making near the humming noise those old chargers make AND the charger was hot as hell.

Absolutely no charge on the cart. Where should I start? Thanks for the help.

Thanks NoleFan (notice my FSU1TM - Go Noles). I guess the first step should've been to just open the charger and look at the coils. The secondary is black and all of the insulation is gone. Even the coil ties are brittle to the touch. Charger is shot and at $350 - $400 for a new I'll have to explore other options.

I guess I'll start a "What would you do?" thread. I've been wanting to upgrade and get rid of the v-glide/resistor setup anyway.

Check the Parts for Sale forum and see if there are any. Also, used ones are usually on Craigslist for $100-$150.

(And yeah, we better get going or I'm putting pads back on and heading to Tallahassee. Heck, I can play that bad easily....)
