Default How did it ever run!

I've had my '99 DS, Regen 2 cart for almost a year. It ran fairly well, with an occasional loss of power that I never could pin down.

I've spent a lot of time getting it street legal in Georgia. I replaced the V-glide with the MCOR-4 conversion kit, but other than that, the running gear was stock.

I got with Scotty B about installing an XCT48400 IQ controller and the IQ harness just to get it to run a bit better. I was going to keep the original Club Car motor and just hoped for maybe 15-16 mph.

After installing the harness and XCT, I made a few short test runs and was very happy. Yesterday I went out for a typical 5 mile run. About 1/2 mile from the house cruising at 16 mph, the regen braking slammed us forward and the reverse buzzer came on and wouldn't stop.

I shut off the R/T switch, checked things over and could not find a problem anywhere. Amazingly it got us back to the house at a crawl.

I checked the motor and solenoid and came to the conclusion the motor was bad. The resistance between F1 and F2 and also S1 and S2 were very erratic. Spinning a wheel would end up with all sorts of different ohm readings.

I had enough and went in to order a motor, HD solenoid, and DPI charger from Scotty B. He advised the best options to go with.

Today, I pulled the motor and disassembled it. I could not believe this motor got us home. Two of the brush holding springs overheated and released the brushes. The commutator is unbelievably pitted.

What irritates me the most is the day I test drove the cart before I bought it, it made a couple of burps and my wife said maybe the motor is bad.

A year later I proved she was right. But she went easy on me!

It's bad but not terminal. I have rebuilt starters that looked worse than that but still cranked. If the windings aren't burnt, turn the armature, drop in a new brush holder if need be, brushes, check the bearing and keep on cruisin'.

I'm sure it could be repaired as you say. But I'm more inclined to go with the Admiral A2.

I won't even need to get my hands dirty!

You know, they say wealthy people have more money than brains.

I don't know how to explain my situation applying that analogy!

Maybe "Mrs. Tom47" could assist with troubleshooting on this forum.
She might just have the "knack"!
