Precedent won't run when batteries are full
i have a 2008+ (unsure of exact year but was purchased in 2013 refurbished) Precedent that i'm about at the end of my rope with. it started off with the power to the motor cutting out after being ridden for a short while, and will not move in Fwd or Rvse. after this happens, when you press the pedal the cart may or may not make a click sound and sometimes it might jump but then thats it. the following is the series of events that have lead me to here. my cart has been doing this since last year but have neglected to do something about for fear of it costing more than we can afford at the moment. however, with Halloween fast approaching i want to be able to use it this year to cart around my young son and elderly in-laws around so i decided i may as well bite the bullet and take it to get it fixed. i charged the cart up i think on the 16th and took it to the shop on the 20th. i described the problem and he hooked it up the diagnostic computer and drove it around, stopped, started, forward, revered, but, of course, it didn't do what has been doing. the only code he said it threw was bad key switch. so i purchased one and swapped it out and had the old key switch tested by another shop which confirmed it was bad. so saturday morning (the 21st) my son and i rode the cart about 10 mins to the soccer fields for his game and there were no problems. an hour later after the game, we hopped on to ride it back home and it reversed about 3 feet and the power cut and it wouldn't move. just as the problem i described. i had my wife come pick us up and we went to eat lunch and when we came back to pick up the cart, it still wouldn't move. i went and got the trailer and got it back home. due to inclement weather, i didn't take it to the shop again until tuesday (the 24th). magically i was able to back it up on the trailer and when i got to the shop it coincidently didn't have any problems! i was beyond frustrated. so again, he hooked it up the machine and we drove it around for at least 20 mins and he ran it through the gauntlet. stop, starts, up hill, down hill, full throttle, half throttle, quarter throttle the M-drive is good, solenoid showed good, fwd/rvse switch good, i even looked at the screen and saw nothing but green (as in everything was good); the only thing that was the slightest concern was that the batteries looked were a LITTLE weak but was expected especially since i hadn't charged the batteries in about a week and have ridden it. when we got back to the shop he load tested the batteries, again, showed they were a little weak but wasn't a concern. i drove it around in a field beside the shop for another 20 mins and still could no recreate the same problem. mech said just give the batteries a good charge and see if it does it again. so i took the cart home, charged it, and when i got back home last night i drove it 50 yards from my house and then poof, no power. i had to push it home. then it hit me, the cart won't run when the batteries at fully charged. it only appears to run when they are 75% or less. what could he causing this issue? i haven't talked to the mech yet but before i left the shop he said the next thing he would replace would be the solenoid, but wouldn't advise it at this point until it goes out. since the solenoid does the job of transferring the power from the batteries to the motor, could the solenoid be failing if it can't handle the batteries at full charge; only at 75% or less? what else are we missing? I'm beyond frustrated. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Precedent won't run when batteries are full
Well, at least You arrived at the best place to get your problem solved.
When the cart quits working, does the buzzer sound when You put the FNR in Reverse? If not, and also based on Your observation that the issue seems to happen after a charge cycle, the issue is likely the OBC lockout. If the FNR does not sound in Reverse, follow the same partial by-pass procedure in this post: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...ml#post1444481 |

Lol! I apologize about that. I'm usually a bit better at grammar and paragraph formation than that, but as i said, I'm at the end of my rope and it was a lot to explain.

Forgive me, I'm not real knowledgeable when it comes to electronics but i do tend to pick up on things rather quickly (this trial is definitely getting me up to speed). what exactly is the OBC and/or OBC lockout and why would it only engage after a full charge and disengage after the batteries have lost some of their charge? (i had to delete the URL since I'm a n00b) *Update Since posting, i did a little digging and am now familiar with the OBC. do you suppose the OBC is sensing the batteries are still charging? or its just a completely faulty computer? is this something the handheld diagnostic computer would pick up? like if i charged it overnight and took it to the shop in the morning, and it won't move, will this throw a fault code? |

Re: Precedent won't run when batteries are full
The buzzer question was specific to when the cart is not running, otherwise do not worry about the OBC.
Did you hear the solenoid click when it was not running? |

as far as the Buzzer goes: when the cart quits working and its switched to reverse, the buzzer will still sound. however, the cart will not move.(as i face-palm myself for not having read your previous post more closely) |

Re: Precedent won't run when batteries are full
I am trying to think of things that would not show in the error codes, a non-functioning/failing Solenoid would definitely leave an error.
Since the 2008+ Precedent has the electronics behind the batteries, it is hard to perform tests back there. An MCOR micro-switch that fails to close would not leave a trail, but it seems unlikely that it would not happen any other time (like driving), which would then leave an error. What are the first 6 letter/numbers of cart S/N so we know the model? Since it does eventually work, next time it fails You may want to put it in neutral and press the pedal all the way down and up about 20 or 30 times in case it is related to the MCOR. |

Re: Precedent won't run when batteries are full
Unfortunately things are a little more complex in the Precedent and there is a proper sequence that needs to take place before the Controller will activate the Solenoid.
Tow/Run and Key switch need to be ON and FNR needs to be in F or R. The micro-switch inside the MCOR (pedal) needs to close. The voltage signal from the MCOR needs to be above a certain level (pedal pressed). If all that happens in that sequence, the Controller completes the solenoid coil circuit to the negative side. If the Solenoid fails to close, there should have been a "fault code" logged in the Controller memory and the shop should have seen it. Pressing the pedal several times can sometimes help (temporarily) with either the micro-switch or signal track of the MCOR. While the OBC does disable the Controller when the charger is plugged, it also prevents the reverse buzzer from making any sounds, so since you can hear the buzzer when the cart is not working, it is not an OBC issue. |
