2010 club car precedent upgrade time xct400 or xct500
Time for the precedent to get a controller. I’ve done a bunch of research but still can’t decide on which one to get. I’m looking at the Alltrax xct400 or xct500. I feel like the 400 would be plenty but after getting the controller, solenoid and battery cable kit the difference in price to the 500 is 100 bucks and if I ever have to add the fan to the 400, for another 50 bucks I coulda had the 500. I’m running the stock motor right now and plan to for a while. How long will the stock motor last on the 500 amp controller with most of the use being on the street and maybe 10% of use being off-road. How big of a noticeable difference am I gonna see on a stock motor between the 400a and 500a. What should I expect to see speed wise with my cart being on 6 inch’s and 23 inch tires. Has anyone gotten a 400 and regretted it and wish they have gotten a 500? Just need some guidance and a couple questions answered. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: 2010 club car precedent upgrade time xct400 or xct500
I recently pulled the trigger and for the fan price, as you mentioned, I just went with the 500. Huge improvement with the stock motor. Especially after Alltrax sent me the better field map. I easily get 26mph out of it all day long with 23" tires, which is about 5,000 rpm IIRC. I have the rpm limit set to 5,700 but I think the stock motor just doesn't have the power to spin that high. Unfortunately I can't comment as to the difference between the 500 and 400, but for the ultimate price difference really being $50 at least you know the controller will never have to get upgraded again regardless of what other mods you do. I recommend the 3 mode switch from Scottyb as well. I use it more than I would have thought.

If you never plan on going any further, the 300 would work perfectly. If you plan to ever upgrade, then go with the 500 and you can have it programmed for your stock motor and it will not hurt a thing. As E36 said, this will cover you for down the road.

Re: 2010 club car precedent upgrade time xct400 or xct500
I got the XCT500/400amp solenoid combo from Scottyb @ cartsunlimited.net for my 2010 Precedent with stock motor, lots of fun.
I have it limited at 380 amps and I easily get 25 mph, which is the rpm limit I setup. If You plan to add 23" tires, You should likely add a fan, and if you plan to perhaps replace the motor later, the 500amps is the best option. There is one member here that is always regretting he did not go for the 500 amps... |

Re: 2010 club car precedent upgrade time xct400 or xct500
Ditto what Sergio and NoleFan4Ever said above - get the 500amp now if you ever intend to upgrade your motor. I upgraded my 2010 with the XCT500/400amp solenoid/2 gauge Wire Set/Admiral A2 motor.
More to the point - I also got the 3 position FNKS switch that allows me to run different program settings. Basically I have a 300amp (stock like), a 400amp (nice all around) and a 500amp (WILD) configuration available for use. The difference in acceleration between the 400amp and the 500amp setting is "VERY" noticeable with the A2 motor. So much so that the wife won't drive the cart in the 500amp setting. I did programmed faster throttle response and a higher max rpm for the 500amp setting as well. For $50 more, over a 400amp with a fan, it's a good deal. Especially if you're thinking about upgrade anything (tires/motor/gearing) later on. |

I agree with everyone else, just go with the 500 and your all set for any upgrades down the road, the fan is a nice added benefit too!

Re: 2010 club car precedent upgrade time xct400 or xct500
Well after reading some of the comments definitely think I’m going to get the 500a. Definitely don’t wanna regret it later and I’m probably going to get a motor at some point so want to get full potential out of it. Another question is how loud is the fan on the controller and has anyone noticed loss of battery life having a big amp controller?

A big benefit of the 500 over the 400 is in the combo kits the 400 comes with the 200a solenoid and the 500 comes with the 400 solenoid.
