Default Voltage Reducer Club Car help

I have seen a few things on how to install a voltage reducer. I have a 48 v club car ds, has an Obc, alltrax 48500 controller.

I had it wired to the positive 1 battery and the negative 6 battery, when I was doing some work I had a spark that made me jump like hell.

I just read that you a re to hook up to positive 1 and controller b-?

I have no trigger wire, it is 4 wires in total. How do I install this thing properly so I don't get fried...

Also, with it constantly on, how much battery wear is this doing? My led lights have an off and on remote, so they are always off during day light or not in use.

Thanks

Most of the inexpensive voltage converters will produced a noticeable spark the first time you connect them (after being disconnected for a while) as the internal filter capacitors need to charge.

This is true even for converters with a "trigger wire".

There are some high-end converters that have a feature called "no spark" connection that prevents that.

The best thing to do is to use a "resistance" to reduced the charging current when you first connect the converter.

I use a plain 60w incandescent light bulb between the converter positive wire and the pack positive battery post when I re-connect the converter to my cart.

Just stand the light bulb on the battery post and touch the converter positive wire to the threads for 10 seconds before connecting the cable directly to the battery.

That will prevent any sparks.

If You no longer have any incandescent light bulbs left, you can use any resistor from 200-1000Ω.

The negative side of You voltage converter should be connected to controller B- if you are using the OBC for charging.

There are lots of safety risks when working on our carts, but electrocution is a pretty remote chance.

Use the light bulb trick and there will be no sparks, and the light bulb will not light up either since the current will be pretty small.

Sergio to confirm understanding I have connected negative to b- in controller. Do now touch light bulb with red wire for 10 seconds? Not trying to explode anything here.

Make sure all your accessories are turned OFF so there is no load on the converter +12v output.

Stand the light bulb on the battery post so the base of the bulb is touching the battery post.

Touch the converter red wire to the threads on the light bulb.

Wait 10 seconds.

Remove light bulb and put red wire on battery post.

There will be no sparks.

like sergio says, little chance of electrocution, but... lots of amperage in those 48 volts
ground a ring on your finger on the wrong battery post while using a wrench on another battery...
you may be looking for your finger or in serious need of skin grafts
