Loose Power & Drainage?
How do test the condition of the motor on my 48VClub Car DS Electric Cart?
Batteries charge up to 48+V

I have the same question & others...

Bought a 2013 Precedent (2 year leased CC cart prob 36 holes a day) and just installed 6 new Trojan-875's and the red lead sparked (probably normal) like hooking up 1 farad cap (from my old car audio days). Sprayed everything down with baking soda and water to get rid of all the dried battery acid, wire brushed all the cable connectors and topped off with distilled water. After the charge cycle ended I ended up with 51 volts and then went on a 2 mile ride with it floored. Under full load it stayed at 48 volts and never missed a beat. I didn't feel the motor to see how hot it was though. I always leave the charger plugged in regardless of the travel time.
Is there a way to tell the motor life or performance (volt/ohm meter)?
If the motor ok should I add a speed controller for more speed?
I will be using for slightly hilly streets and slight off road.

On another topic...
It has Steeleng AT20x10-10 which I believed are warped as the cart ride slightly bounces up and down and isn't smooth on pavement (probably a crappy cheap China brand that's not true round). The shocks are stock Monroe that came with the cart and probably need changing.

Thats a lot of stuff, but first of all glad you made your first post. 2nd, you will find more help and less mix-ups if you start your own thread for better clarity.

Just a quick response for you is the batteries sound brand new and you have to go thru like 50 charge cycles before they are at full strength. We are talking a major difference in brand new and broken in for power purposes.

Once seasoned/broke in, if you are still not happy, you could have it changed to SP4 and with your tire size should get you ~21 or so on flat ground. You can use a speed magnet, but you lose your regen capability, and you absolutely can put in a Alltrax XCT controller to custom tune speed and power.

Many options, but get those batteries broken in first.

Thanks for the reply! It will take awhile to do 50 charge cycles. What do you mean have it changed to a SP4? Like to 4 awg cables? Sorry for the dumb question. I do have 8 years in car audio 12v (in my younger days) and have an AV business since 96, so I do understand voltages, impedance and proper wire sizes very well. Just making this a perfect winter garage project. If I can get 21 or so without spending the $ on a solenoid and controller, that would be plenty!

That would be speed code 4 and runs about $100 bucks from your near by dealer. You can install a high speed magnet which tricks it into going faster by the signal pulses, but you lose regen capabilities and I like to have that.

There use to be a few CC shops around Mt. Pleasant/N. Charleston area. One was near Patriots Point. There were many more around Summerville too.

Unfortunately the speed magnet is not an option for You, the Precedent IQ was only manufactured until early 2012 models (before March 2012), after that they are all Excel.

Since You already have more aggressive tires I would not waste any money on a Speed Code 4, You can get a XCT300 controller (does not require a new solenoid) and sell your old one for about the same net price and get much better performance and customize-able experience.

The battery break-in time has more to do with achieving the rated storage capacity, the only thing I normally see manufactures recommend is to not place a large load for an extended time during the first few cycles as the plates are still "forming".

If Your cart has an OBC with the big Powerdrive 3 external charger, it is important that there is a single cable (no other wires) connected to the pack negative battery post and that the cable goes through the OBC in the back of the battery bucket.

OP, you break those batteries in and you will feel a difference. Big difference in a new "green" set of batteries and a "seasoned" set.

And mine is an '07 DS with SP4 (which gives the controller 19.7 mph on stock tires) has 11x22" tires, 2 awg cables and still with 7+ year old batteries I easily get 21 mph with me on the cart. I do not climb hills but do have normal slopes and can easily take mine anywhere I have had to go from the woods to open road. I did get my SP4 for $80 here in my town and even though we have changed many over to other controllers, motors, etc. we did it when they failed or when we were upgrading the carts...

And I am a proponent of Alltrax controllers so do not get me wrong, they're great and you do what your wallet and your wants takes you to, I just want you to know what the SP4 does in similar trim.

Nole & Serg,

It is a PH serial #, which is a I2 Excel. It did come with the PD3 charger and the cart wiring was unmolested, although I did add the Chinese DC to DC 30A converter for the head and tail lights. I did the 30A to add the JL Audio Marine 4 ch amp for a future 2.1 system. I didn't alter the batt pack negative as I used the wiring diagram from cartsunlimited.net.

I was looking at the plum quick bandit motor also as an upgrade (I travel to Charlotte some and they are on the way).

The stock batt and motor cables look like they are 8 awg or possibly 6 awg depending on how thick the jacket is...If I do the motor and XCT300 controller will upgrading them to 4 awg help or not necessary?

Will probably move the DC converter when I do the motor and controller.
