Default Club Car Question

I'm a novice at electric cart drive systems! Can someone please explain to me what this is and what it does and do I even need it? Putting new batteries in the cart. This was not even hooked up before.

Thanks for any and all help!

It looks like a voltage reducer for running 12volt accessories, kinda looks like a 16v to 12v, to reduce 2- 8volt batteries to 12 volt. do you have any 12 volt accessories, lights, radio etc?

I think it looks like a voltage reducer- maybe someone wired your accessories right to the batteries. (Not recommended)

Yes, My cart has head lights and tail lights. I'm going to take a picture of the other end of the wires and post. The loose wires have always hung underneath the cart without me knowing it. I'm pretty sure the lights are wired direct to one battery and I think that would explain why they've never been to bright. Always looked like they were operating on a dying battery.

Thanks for all the advice!

you can check the output and see if it works, and use it. but I would recommend getting a 48-12 reducer, to spread the draw across all batteries, using 2 batteries to power lights will shorten the life of the new batteries you just bought. I am assuming since it had a 16 to 12 reducer it is a 48 volt cart, not a 36 volt.
