Default battery cable Nuts?

Ok. One for the experts here.

On our fleet of Club Car carts, i regularly see the nuts that clamp the cables to the batteries corroded and almost an inverted cone shape. I only get to the shed when they have a problem with the carts and usually the daily maintenance is done by a few Course marshals. I am assuming that this is electro corrosion and wonder if it is due to any one thing in particular. I note that the terminals are usually protected with terminal grease, so i dont think this is the issue. I wonder if it may be due to the course being quite hilly and making the carts draw more current than usual. The cables are all OEM as fitted from new. I also note that the cable/terminal quality looks so poor as to be made in some guys back room!. My thoughts are to manufacture my own cables to replace these and consider using a heavier cable and lugs to cope with the possible extra amperage being drawn while in use on the course.

Does this seem a sensible thing to think or am i missing something more obvious? I am an old Gas cart regular but the electric carts are still a little out of my comfort zone knowledge wise. I have my head round most of it, but not sure about this issue and what is most likely to be causing it.

This is why i am looking at the culprit maybe being the poorly made cables.

Look forward to opinions here.

I'm probably not the expert, but I will say 2 things. The corrosion you describe is simply the nature of the beast. You will have to periodically clean the posts/cables.

And, I doubt the terrain of the course has anything to do with it.

It was just bothering me that once you start seeing this nut corrosion, the lugs get extremely weak and some have even snapped off leaving the cart with no power. I was assuming this was due to heat from poor connections with the corroded nuts, therefore why i asked the question. I will wait and see if any others chime in with other opinions. Not that i dont agree, but it is worth getting several thoughts about a problem to follow all possibilities.

Pardon me for being so forward Sir Cartmaster. Perhaps you should trot over to the Palace and ask Prince Charles his opinion, or better yet, ask Her Highness. She certainly outranks everyone, especially a commoner like me. LOL.

LOL. I am not trying to be smart, it's just that the last time i asked a stupid question, the responses nearly made me leave the forum!

You may remember my post regarding overiding the tow/run switches to prevent them being coasted down the hills.

So, I have taken on board your comments and i am sure you are right but i do like to get several opinions before making a decision. After all, making new cables for all of our fleet would be time consuming and wont do it if felt unnecessary. I see lots of your posts and respect your opinions. Sorry if i came across as arrogant!

When the queen pops round this afternoon for tea, i will recommend she gives you a Knighthood of the realm for all your work here.

All the best.

When the Queen comes around, and after you settle the matter of your corroding nuts, ask her this: Why did her son get rid of one of the prettiest women in the world to marry a horse? And why her grandson is about to marry a girl that (fill in the blank) he should not marry?

We American men don't understand such things.

Do you know what? you must be reading my mind!

One correction though. Diana was the most WONDERFUL woman in the world. You obviously follow the royal family and have probably heard all the conspiracy theories, so i wont go into details for fear of being beheaded this afternoon. The royalty are a mystery to us in the UK too. The princes choice to marry a horse shocked us all, the death of Diana shocked not just the UK, but brought the world to tears, i remember getting up at 5am that morning and refilling my coffee cup several times with my own tears. The whole country was walking around like Zombies!

And as to new girlfriend choices, i say go make another series of suits, rather than marry into a decidedly dangerous future. I will probably get banned from the forum now, so, Toodle pip old chap. It was nice knowing you all.
