Rejuvinating front end bushes?

Hi everyone, My 05 Precedent is/was a bit wobbley/floaty at full speed

on the golf course, and she seems to sit a little lower on the drivers side front.

So I attacked the front end after reading up on here first. The intension was to turn the front spring around, to 'even' things up. I found a couple of the bushes needed some attention. I rang Sydney CC and they said they could post them out next week.....today is Thursday so that was going to be a week before I got the parts. So I decided to do the unthinkable....rejuvinate

the bushes and pins that were on the cart.....of course you can't just do the ones that are loose

....so I ended up doing the inner and outer control arm, bottom bushes under the king pins, pulled the KP down and sanded them down to remove the rust and greased them and loaded them with grease.

I don't know if what I did was standard practice or just a 'cheapskates' makeover.

I hope it will last the couple of weeks before I get around to replacing the lot

I was quite surprised at the amout of mud that gets into the upper inner control arm between the bushes.

The pins were quite rusted and the mud had ingressed both inside and outside of the bushes.

I forced the 'c' pin open to re-engage the rubber bush. My thinking was that the knurled ends of the tubes/'c' pins will still keep their integrity when bolted up

I have three questions.....1) would it be prudent to fill the hole in the control arm with silicon sealer to stop the water/mud from going in?

2) has anyone done this before?

3) how long do you think it will last?

Front end bushes... OH!!! you mean, Bushings!!!

In the last pic... the control arm, (Delta A-arm) with the hole in it,

Is that the top, or bottom of the plate?
and... are YOU going to be running through water and mud also?

To me, it just looks like a hard to weld area, and that's why it was left open!
I wouldn't see a problem, sealing it up!
as long as the area is really clean, and the hole is not in the top of the plate, The silicone should last a while,
otherwise, water may puddle up and cause rust in the future!

Your on the right track, good job!

Sorry about the bushes

you'll have to forgive me .....I am from the land DOWNUNDER!

same with the 'control arm'...on an auto we call the upper and lower control arms. It won't take me long to find out all these things.

....that is the bottom of the arm....the cart was only ever used on a golf course.....at this stage that is where I will do most travelling....we don't purposely go out into rain and puddles but obviously there is rain and water around at times.

I was just surprised at the amount of dirt that came out of it and what it had done to the pins that the BUSHINGS go onto. The other thing that could be done is to squirt WD40 or a silicon spray into the hole to lubricate the bushings, although this may 'hold' the dirt/dust in there to irritate the bushings.

I'll probably fill them with the sealer

Took the cart out today and it behaved like a train on tracks!

I am really happy with the mini renovation.

Welcome to BGW 'down under' driver33b. I too just completed a total bushing replacement on a 2001 Carryall. The carryall had been a golf course maintenance vehicle and spent 5 yrs on the golf course 7 days a week. There is constant exposure to water and dirt. The sleeves had to be replaced as well. All of the old CCs I see need this to some degree and it just makes a world of difference in how they handle. The job is simple and the cost is low.
