98 Club Car 36V Torque Upgrade

Hello all I am new to the forum. I am looking for a cart to use as a hunting cart. Not an extreme cart just something to get around on the lease during season since we can't use ATV's. Just looking for some extra torque and a small lift with some light aggressive tires down the road. Speed is not a factor at all.

I have been looking for older used carts that I could upgrade as I am able to. I have found a 98' 36v that looks to be in decent shape. I am new to carts and have been searching and reading as much as I can.

What would be the first and most bang for my buck to increase torque? After that what could I do down the road to improve more and more as time and funds become available? Thanks for the help

A 36v 1998 would be a resistor coil drive.

A Club Car DS is hard to beat for a hunting cart. I bought one to do exactly what you're doing. If your hunting lease is hilly and the trails are not in pristine shape then start with getting the torque you need then a lift and ATV all terrain tires to crawl through the slick stuff.

If you could post the serial number of your cart then the real experts will get you going in the right direction.

All of the 36v Club Cars made after 1994 were resistor coil drive.
The first 2 digits in the serial # are the yr the cart was made.

Thank you both for the info. So all of the 36v carts were resistor coil drive after 94? What about the 48v? I haven't bout the cart. After hearing this I wanted to look around a little bit more. Any significant changes for either CC or EZGO like this is appreciated.

When it comes to building a hunting buggie 36v resistor carts are pretty easily converted to 48 using the conversion kit. Here's the thing. Golf carts are engineered for the golf course. So when you put big tires on them and take them to the GA hills they are woefully under powered and not capable of climbing the hills whether they are 36 or 48v.
Figure on replacing the controller, the solenoid, the cable set, and the motor for any serious hills, and the F&R switch for any series carts... What's a series cart? Go here to read more about the different drive types > http://www.cartsunlimited.net/upgrade-suggestions.html

I can't speak for an EZ-GO but if I would have found this site before I bought my project cart then I would have searched for Club Car DS with the IQ control system. The serial number starts with AQ and are 48 volt and a great platform to build on. Good luck, welcome to the forum and don't be shy to ask questions during your search.

Yes this will be a hunting build. I will want a lift and slightly larger tires. Nothing crazy just some knobbies. Most of our place is pretty flat with some ditches and such. There is one place that goes up a mountain but I can use truck to get up it. I have an ATV for working and getting around on the off season but we cann't use them during season. It will mainly be used during season to get in and out and creep around. I just don't want to walk 1/2-1 mile to get in and hunt. Plus the windshield and roof will be nice in rain and wind
