If you are asking about the trickle charge it can be very low. As the pack won't need much amperage input to stay at the preset float charge level. I just went through this discussion with the engineers when I saw as little as 0.9v on the cycle.

Was at the farm sunday and the digital meter was on 49.3 unplugged and plugged back in it started charging. Was wondering how low of amps before the charger started another cycle on it's on.

Maybe I should be saying volts instead of amps.

The OBC is programmed to start a "Maintenance" cycle every ~15 days. So the amps/voltage do not really come into play as it is not a Smart Charger.

When you unplugged it and then plugged it back in, it reverted over to another algorithm and just took your pack back up to full charge similar to how a maintenance cycle works. Nothing wrong with what you did, just don;t do it right after a normal charge as over time it will deteriorate the plates. (If mine as sat for several days, I go out the morning of and do that so the pack is topped off before I go off on it.)

Agree Nole but it is OK to sometimes pull the charger plug just after finishing a charge, wait a couple of seconds and plug it back in. This starts the charging cycle again and does what they call a "Balanced Charge" because it supposedly drags the voltage up on any individual batteries that are a bit low and balances the pack.

Absolutely Bruce (and more so to my point about "as over time it will deteriorate the plates") Some of us call that an equalization charge and it is definitely a good thing to do every couple of months or so based on individual usage. Just not like a neighbor down the street who thought that was how you "Supercharge" the batteries and was doing it all the time...

I even rotate my batteries annually with my 2 inside batteries becoming my Main + and Main - and the next year when I swap the inside set back to the outside I make the previous + a - and vice versa.

No wonder your batteries are at over 7+ years and still going strong!!

Just got back from a 2+ hour night ride with lights and radio and she never missed a beat. (Although I do notice some swelling in the battery tops and a little faster self discharge in-between rides, but hey, I ain't complaining at all! ) These babies will be 8 years old in June.....
