Clubcar charger won't shut off
Hi everybody. I know there's a lot of info on this site but I can't find the answer to my question. My power drive charger will not shut off. It sits at 4 amps for eternity. I checked all the batteries individually after 24 hours off the charger and they're all right around 9 volts. I read that if there is no delay when plugging in the charger then it's the obc. Is there anyway to check it? I've been a mechanic for my whole life and know with cars poor grounds can cause issues. Is that a possibility? I'd like to not throw a bunch of money into this thing guessing. If anybody has any advise or more info please let me know, thanks in advance.

Re: Clubcar charger won't shut off
If there is no delay, the OBC has failed..... If there is a delay it's normal, but an on-charge voltage of 9 volts per battery is extremely low. The OBC won't even consider turning the charger off until the batteries reach 58.3V while on charge.

Thanks for the response. There is zero delay. If I plug the charger into the cart then into the outlet it immediately kicks on. So the computer wants to see almost 10v per battery. Seems strange to me considering they're only 8vs. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

8 volts per battery, even while resting, is weak. Same concept as a car battery. It’s a 12 volt battery but it charges at 14-15 volts. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

So do you think the batteries are junk then? If I charge my cart then immediately check them they should be at least at 9.75 V. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Immediately checking battery voltage after a charge cycle is not an accurate way to measure battery condition. After the charge cycle ends, they need to sit overnight so the surface voltage will drop to a resting voltage. At that time you can determine the state of charge. There are state of charge charts that you can find on google that will show you what voltage equals what percentage of battery capacity. I’d upload one but I’m on my phone at a restaurant. My chart is at home on the computer Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I found a chart on this site that says 50.9 is 100% charge. I'm over that. I just checked and it's been 24 hours. I'm at 52.6v across the entire pack. When tested individually not one below 8.8v Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Re: Clubcar charger won't shut off
Misunderstanding on my part. I thought I read where you were getting 9 volts per battery while on charge but I see now where you said “off” charge. Your batteries are more than likely fine, maybe damaged from overcharging but the voltages are well over what they should be. Change the OBC or get a charger that doesn’t need one and see how it works.

Oh ok. Thank you for the help. I was leaning that way but like I said didn't want to throw money at it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Yeah. Sorry. Saturday evenings at a restaurant is not my most focused time of the day.
