Who has the trick to reinstall that aluminum piece around dash?
Someone a while back said they have the trick to reinstalling that aluminum piece that wraps around the top of the dash and has those 6 sliding retainers that slide everytime you look at them .
Looking for the shortcut. Can't see straight right now- finally finished my PB-6 install (will update other thread with pics) and working on soldering... learned that I can not solder...need more beer... |

Solder first.....then drink beer Same with those tiny sliding nuts......Use a small flat screw driver to slide them around while you start them one at a time once they are all started tighten them starting from the center & moving out both ways |

Go to an Auto body shop ask for a couple pieces of Strip Caulk. Lay the moulding on the cart, mark the moulding at the bolt positions.Take smallpieces of caulk about 1/2 inch & use it to position the bolts to stay where you need them. Just wrap the caulk around the base of the bolt where it slides in the moulding.

Lot of ways to do it. I use small cable ties, get them close, locate final position with an ice pick. Get them started and cut the cable ties out of there.

Put them in position with a little grease. Helps them stay.

For future reference:
There is usually no need to remove theis aluminum strip. Just loosen the screws a little & front cowl comes off & goes back on easy. Yep, I know it's tool late now. |

You're right but I had a number of deep scratches in mine and it was all boogered up so I took my orbital sander to it 150 grit, 220 grit, 400 grit or so, then steel wool, then Eagle One polish... looks better than new now! |
