94 CC 36 V system - Upgrade advice
Gents,
Per subject line, I have acquired a 94 CC that is a 36 V system. It has been garage kept by a friends dad that recently passed, and is in near perfect condition (spare the batteries). I would like to convert it to a Lithium Ion battery as the old lead acid batteries are shot. Owner got quotes for ~ $600 for new batteries, and I'm willing to pay a little more for the light weight, and quick charge of the Lithium Ion. Let's say that I'm willing to go double on the price so $1200 to convert to Li-Ion without expecting a big performance gain. I've read through a lot of the threads, and I'm looking for the following info regarding what is necessary for changing over. Batteries - Does the Voltage need to match the current 36 V? Controller -- does this need to be upgraded Balancing -- is there a thread or instructions on how to do this battery management system -- recommendations - is this the component that will shut off the batteries to save them if a cell gets too drained. charger -- recommendations I would likely put an auxiliary 12 V battery in to run lights, radio, etc, can the same "main" battery charger also charge the 12V? If it's more than ~$1200, I would just replace the 6 - 6V batteries and put the Li-Ion project off until those batteries wore out. This project is ultimately something to do with my son as a hobby and to haul coolers around my neighborhood. thanks in advance, Phil |
