Default 82 club car

looking for a parts explosion picture of the differential to figure out how to remove the axles to replace the seals. They are leaking oil onto the brakes which makes it hard to stop.

I don't know for sure if your older 82 is like the later carts but, there is a good chance because CC didn't change much for the next 20 yrs after they made your cart......There may be a clip behind the rear hub....Take the brake drum off and look thru the hole in the hub plate with a flashlight you will see a C clip retaining the axle. #70 in the pic.....Lockman just sent this view from his manual

Hey Thanks. I do have the clip there so it should be pretty easy.

Ok I pulled my axles out to replace my bearings and seals. The seals looked perfect after I pulled the axles out. I then looked into why they were leaking. I found the bearings had alot of play in them on the axle shaft where the bearing is pressed on. I pulled the bearings off along with the collars and snap rings to find the bearings had worn down the axles. Called to get pricing on the axles to find that each axle was $299.00 each. Both axles are bad! Why would any company design a differential where the bearings are on the outside of the seals exposed to the elements? Meaning water, sand and dirt! I am a GM Mechanic for 25 years now and there is no manufacture for Automobiles that would design it like this! It is really a piss poor design! Even though the bearings have a plastic shield on them they are not water tight!

I am going to try and fill in the worn down areas with a weld and then lightly grind it down so that the bearings will not move around and then try and see if everything will work. I am really disappointed in Club Cars right now!

!982 model.... they are 27 years old. So don't be too disappointed if their stupid golf cart design only lasted 27 years How about some before and after pics of the repair you are doing. It sounds good. Do you have a lathe to clean them up on?

I have only had the golf cart for 1 year now. Not sure of the history of the cart before me. I did dig it out of a Field in Norfolk Va when I picked it up so however long it sat there?

I do have access to a lathe, to clean them up. Hopefully it will work out good. I will post up pictures from start to finish once I attack them this afternoon. It really pisses me off that the axles are $300.00 each and I only paid $200 for the cart before putting in another $2100.00 to get it where I wanted and now this. I should have bought a newer cart!

Yeah, you could have......but that cart has a lot of potential. If the aluminum frame is good? I had an 89 that I updated with 2004 body, top, and trimmings. Lift & tires. Converted to 48v controller, Dumping bed....but I still didn't have 2thousand dollars in it?
Would like to see the repair process. I'm sure it would help others in the future, too

H2-You might consider a used differential or a couple of used axels. A lot less than $600. for new axels.
Try ***********.com or call them at 1-800-262-6861 ask for Don or Jason. As I recall they are in Alabama so freight to you shouldn't be a deal breaker.

Don't ever tell ANYONE what you have invested in your cart. You may have to buy it back from your wife's attorney some day!! Good luck
