Rear wheel makes a rubbing noise

Long time no post. I have a 2007 Precedent - you guys have walked me through a few issues already, thanks! When I back the cart out of the garage at low speed, the rear wheels make a slight rubbing sound. It's coming from both sides..it sounds like something needs a little grease...it started making the sound over the winter. The rubbing goes away at higher speeds, and doesn't return until the cart has sat for a while.

Also, just for a sanity check, the batteries aren't holding a charge. They just turned 4 years old, and the previous owner didn't take care of them very well - I've owned the cart for 2 years. They're Trojan T-1275s and I've kept them charged and watered. I had a voltage reducer installed last year, but the batteries issues started this winter so I don't think the reducer is the cause. 12 hours after being charged they are showing 50.5V across the pack, but I can only go about 2 or 3 miles before the battery light starts flashing and my meter shows <45V.

Could be the brake shoes rubbing that you are hearing...you may have to put the rear wheels up on jack-stands and put the cart in gear and listen for the source. A mechanic’s stethoscope is a inexpensive handy tool for this type of troubleshooting. The batteries sound like they are ready for replacement. I would be a good time to consider changing from the four 12v system to six 8v batteries for longer reserve time and an overall better battery pack. Search the forum for this topic and you will find plenty of info. Good luck.😎

I agree with theboss20 on both counts.

Is your reducer a 48V to 12V unit so that it uses the whole pack?

So...now for a twist. My daughters took the cart out last night to cruise around the neighborhood. The put the cart back in the garage and put it on the charger. A few hours later I took the dog for a walk and didn't hear the charger humming. I unplugged it from the cart, waited a second, and plugged it back in. A few seconds later it clicked, like normal, but the ammeter didn't move. I retried a few times with the same results. I decided to reset the OBC following the instructions in these forums. Plugged in the charger with the same result. I borrowed my neighbors CC PowerDrive 3 charger, plugged it in, and the ammeter hit 15. So now I have all kinds of questions about the validity of my charger, and if that's been messing with the batteries. Help please :)

I have a 6" MadJax lift kit on my cart. Anyone want to recommend any specific jack and jack-stands? When I've done work in the past I've had to put my jack on a few large boards before it was able to actually lift the cart...I'd rather avoid that in the future.

Sorry, I didn't see this question. I had the reducer installed when I had the dash replaced and speakers/radio put in. The reducer is a 48v-to-12v. Interesting note - I told the installer that I wanted all the add-ons to go through the reducer, including the headlights. Once it was delivered he informed me that he did NOT run the lights through the reducer and that he NEVER does that, the draw the lights put on the single battery aren't enough to affect it over the 4 year life of the batteries. After searching around it seems that half of the posts agree with him...but my thoughts are "Why wouldn't you just go ahead and do that?"

More spam! My neighbors charger ran into the night, the batteries were really boiling. I should note - I have a digital meter installed on the pack, and it's always showed 50.3 or 50.4 V on the pack after a night of charging. This morning it showed 51v, and I tested each battery and 3 of them were 12.7 and one was 12.6. I have the Club Car charger maintenance and service manual (thanks to CrashTestDummy) and I'll be testing the relay and rectifier today. If the transformer is toast then I'll have to think about bypassing the OBC and going with a DPI...but I haven't done much research into DPI charger brands and options.

Measure the voltage of the batteries after 12 hrs of rest (charge the batteries then disconnect the charger and no cart use for 12 hrs).

This gives the "real" state of the batteries.

It was a little more than 13 hours after the charger shutoff, but the batteries were 12.7, 12.7, 12.8, and 12.7 - which is 50.9, but the meter read 51.1 across the entire pack. The battery performance has been declining for a few months - could the charger have been slowly failing and impacting the batteries? It seems like a failed relay or breaker would have just gone dead, not slowly died.

What is the correct way to measure individual battery voltage? An I just place multi meter on the + - of an individual battery and get a true volt readout of just that bat or do I need to unwire that bat to get a true reading of just that bat?
