Default 2006 Precedent OBC bypass

Just a double-check that this is all there is to it. I'm removing the fried OBC completely and using the real estate for a 48v to 12v converter.

In a nutshell, it's simply a case of running the 10g black wire from the charge receptacle directly to the pack negative...

and -

use the plug from the dead OBC to make that nifty TahoeDawg trick with blue/white connection so as not to have to hack the harness, remove all other plug wires as per Sergio...once blue/white soldered and shrink-tubed, plug back into harness...

Plug in smartcharger and away we go...

Thats it, correct?

Yes, and if you ever change the controller, you won't need the jumper.

The 10ga black wire with the white terminal connector goes to the negative wire from the charger receptacle.

The other 10ga black wire is the negative OBC output to Controller B-.

You can cut those two 10ga black wires and solder/splice them together, then just connect the charger receptacle negative wire back to the white connector and you are done.

The 1/4" quick connector on the body of the OBC is for the sense wire.

And it will be just a matter of time before you drive off with the charger still plugged in. Sergio has a nice little explanation posted here on how to wire in the interlock.

LMAO!

Yeah, I can see that happening especially after a few beverages.

Is the interlock a sticky? Going looking now...

Thanks!

Yes. It's a sticky on bypassing the OBC. About 5 pages in.

Aah, ok. I will search that out! That's one feature that would be great to get back!

What purpose does that third grey wire coming from the charge receptacle serve? With the OBC gone should I just tie it up to keep it out of the way in case someone else down the road decides to go back OBC.

There is also a wire with a yellow connector on the OBC bunch. Its also gonzo with the OBC but again curious what it is.

The Gray wire gets connected to the neg side of the added relay. You will need to make a connection inside the DPI DC plug. Take it apart and jumper the black wire to the unused connector. This will provide a negative voltage (when plugged in) to the gray wire to energize the relay. This way when you plug the charger in it energizes the relay which opens the blue and white wires that are connected to the NC contacts of the relay. Add a diode and connect 48vdc per Sergios diagrams and your all set.

So if Im reading Sergio's comments in the OBC bypass sticky properly it looks like there are 2 methods for wiring the interlock after an OBC bypass...

One with the diode and relay - and another which only involves a resistor? If so, would any old 1 watt resistor work? I can source the resistor about a stone's throw from my house...
