Default Couple Switch Questions

Looking to get a unique on/off key for my 2006 DS - is there any one that is a direct swap to what I have now (no trimming, dash mods, etc.)?

additionally - has anyone added a hidden battery bank switch...to kill total power? Thinking of when at campsites I'd like to have a remote switch somewhere (preferably a padlockable switch) that I can remotely locate that will kill the battery bank power to the whole cart (so right off the main). It would need to be a big enough switch that can handle the large gauge cables (I have an alltrax 500a).

Any links/help is appreciated.

CC has uncommon keys for Precedents so I suppose they are available for the DS. They are just a straight swap.

A kill switch along the lines of those shown in the pictures should do the trick for the total power, although this one doesn't operate on a key. They are 48V-60V 300A or 600A switches used for marine environments. This one just comes from eBay but I'm sure you could get what you want at a boat store.

You could use a remote control like auto key fob to operate a relay to cut power.
It also seems somebody used a reed switch mounted behind the dash and used a magnet to close it to operate the cart.

As far as the main switch to kill power, I would look at heavy duty marine application types. IDK if anybody makes them specifically for carts.

Thanks for the ideas - I was looking at drag race shops as well - they have a decent amount of kill switches but nothing exactly like what I was looking for. I'll check the marine.

@mrgolf - your idea with the fob sounds cool but too difficult for a noob when it comes to electronics? can you point me to some reed switches, that sounds interesting.

Thanks!

I would think this would work wouldn't it? Found it on west marine's site...

https://www.bluesea.com/products/600...king_Key_-_Red

48V DC
300A continous
500A Intermittent (5min)
900A Cranking/burst (30sec)

I'm running a 48v cart - on a 500A alltrax (currently on stock motor so alltrax is set to max 400A)

Yes, that looks good to me. Maybe Sergio or Scottyb can chime in to say if they think it is OK.

I am running a Blue Sea battery switch on my Cushman utility cart - the Model 6006, which has pretty much the same specifications as the Model 6004 suggested above. I am very happy with my Blue Sea battery switch ... it is very well made and no problems with just over a years use on my 48 volt cart. I have measured peak battery amperage up to 400 amps during load testing, but typical battery amperage is in the 100 to 200 amp range.

I think that the Blue Sea 6004 with Locking Key would work well for your application.

Dumb question....if I put a switch on the main pack, then it would have to be on to charge correct? Which then defeats my purpose of overnight theft deterrent.

Where could I put a remote cut-off switch to disable the cart but still charge? Not the key switch - I already have a unique key but that’s easily bypassed.

When I first built my cart I was worried about theft like you as well as everyone having the same type ignition key. I installed a barrel key switch used for motorcycles, fits nicely in the same hole as the cart key and an alarm system that demobilizes the cart if moved. Lug nuts on the wheels. At this stage of the game I still have the barrel key type ignition switch as well as the wheel locks, but I removed the alarm system. It's been 10 years now and lots and lots of campsites, no theft. Just once someone tried to take my charger... didn't work out to well for him...
