2010 Precedent Battery Issue
My 2010 CCP continues to have battery issues. In 2015 I had D&D Motor Systems, 170-506-0002, (9.1 peak HP) motor installed, the controller/solenoid were not upgraded. In January 2017 I installed new Crown 165 batteries, in January 2018 I replaced all battery cables, except the main positive/negative cables, now I can barely get 18 holes of golf in on a course of moderately hilly terrain in the Southern Atlanta metro area (yesterday in was nearly 70 degrees). Near the end of a round of golf, my state of charge meter shows 48/49 volts, no load, but drops down to 37/38 volts under load, one passenger 180 lbs, one at 230 lbs.
I charged the batteries over night and have a state of charge reading of 52.6 volts, 5 batteries show 8.5 volts, one (fourth from the positive end) shows 8.4, all batteries show in the lower end of the green range on the specific gravity tester. When testing driving today, I drop to 48.1 volts on flat surface at full throttle. On a long down hill slope, I get 49.7 volts, on the return trip up the hill I get 46.3 volts, 2 mins after this test, I have 51.9 volts. I think everything looks, but need some learned advice on why I can't get around the course. Thanks. |

Re: 2010 Precedent Battery Issue
You have a battery dropping under load. You need to put meter on each battery one at a time and find the bad one. It could also be a connection failing under load.

Re: 2010 Precedent Battery Issue
You can get a simple load tester at an automotive store they will need to be the same voltage as your batteries, or at least cover that range, 6, 8, or 12 volt. Unhook the batteries from each other and test them individually.
There is a switch on the tester that inserts a resistance load in the circuit. You hold this down as long as recommended by manufacturer. Reading voltage under load is quite different than resting voltage. The one that drops the most the quickest will be the bad battery(ies). Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Re: 2010 Precedent Battery Issue
2 more things:
- You mentioned 52.6 vdc after charging, but what is it 12+ hours afterwards? (Trying to determine if the pack is weak) - Place it in "Tow" and push the cart on a flat surface and see if it rolls freely. (No dragging, Ie: brakes, bearings, etc.) |

Re: 2010 Precedent Battery Issue
It rolls freely, and the 52.6v was over 12 hours after charger shut off. The 52.6 was from the cart state of charge gauge, the digital volt meter read 51.9

That is well over the 100% pack charge so you are good on the initial for sure.... And that roll rules out "drag"....

Re: 2010 Precedent Battery Issue
Everything you say about your batteries sounds correct. Except the specific gravity. I suspect you might be using a bulb type hydrometer. There is too much error involved with them. They need to be temp compensated, air bubbles give a false reading and there is always the question; do I take my reading at the top or the bottom of the meniscus. My I suggest you search Amazon or anywhere else for "Refractometer for Battery Acid". It just might show up your problem. It should cost you about $20.

Re: 2010 Precedent Battery Issue
Ran a load test today using a standard automotive battery load tester. Upon attaching the cables to the battery I showed the same reading as my digital volt meter, 8.4v on all batteries. During the load test the voltage dropped to 7.8-7.9 while under load on all batteries, one battery showed a drop to about 7.5 while under load just before the time for the test was completed. After the load test all batteries showed 8.3v. Thoughts??
On another issue, I saw a post about the orange battery light, which generated a question for me. I removed this light to put in my SOC gauge, is it OK to do this? I still have the OBC in use. |

Maybe the OBC is trying to tell you something but can't without the light... |
