36v-48v Resistor Cart
Don't know much about resistor carts.
Other than changing the solenoid (2000 model) to 48v, and of course the batteries and charger, what else needs to be done? Thanks! |

36v-48v Resistor Cart
You might have a big meltdown. (Trust me, I know. Mine got stuck in wide open throttle. Goodbye to the brick post by the driveway.)
Now I have Scotty’s kits in a few carts. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: 36v-48v Resistor Cart
You can do it but you have to drive wide open full throttle or nothing. Anything in between zero and 100% will cause a meltdown. I had one like this before I built the solid state conversion kits. It was fun then one day my wife took that cart to the neighbors house and almost burnt the seat up 1/2 mile down the road She was like, well - I didn't drive it very fast ...

My v-glide melted down and every battery cable in the cart melted. Even the board the resistors were mounted too burned up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: 36v-48v Resistor Cart
I actually sold the whole bunch of them to somebody who was looking to 'restore' an old resistor cart from my V2 demo cart.

Re: 36v-48v Resistor Cart
Sort of on this topic, there is a lady who wants me to help her get her 1987 resistor cart going. She does not want anything powerful or fancy, just something for her child who has Downs S,. to tool around the property.
The body on the cart is in good shape and it has been garage kept (has not moved from there basement in 10 years). It was running when batteries died over winter 10 or so years ago. I reminded her the cart is 30+ years old, but she is adamant she wants me to try to get it going for her, she would be ok to spend $750-$1000 on it if she could just get a couple of years out of it. I am just not sure it is a good idea to even invest in the batteries for it? Solid state upgrade is not an option. Technology seems pretty simple and does not appear to be a lot of expensive things to break or difficult to repair? Do I tell her to junk it or do I put batteries in it for her and see what happens> Thoughts, ideas, or suggestions? |
