Default Another stuck armature!

I have to replace the brushes in a motor – easy job, right? Nope. Another stuck armature of course.

I have put all kinds of oil, PB blaster, everything you can think of, I have the rear end out and I am banging it against my concrete, but this won’t budge. How can I get it off without damaging it?

If you got a very large set of pulley pullers, and got the claws to grip the back of the armature, it would easily pull the armature off the shaft.

Another idea is to make your own puller. Get four 8 inch long thick bolts, a 2x4 that you can cut into 2, 8 inch long sections, one of those you will split long ways in half. Drill 4 holes in the boards at the ends to accommodate the 4 8 inch long b9lts going through. Use the split long ways boards to run along the armature nearest the gear housing, and the other 2x4 with the holes to act aga8nst the shaft end. Use 4 bolts and washers on each ends. Tighten the bolts working your way around and in turn pressing the armature upwards off the shaft.

The shaft doesn’t come all the way through this armature. Would this still work? The input shaft is probably only 2 inches long or so.

You need to pick it up about 3 ft off the ground and drop in on concrete. It will come off,and it would help if you left the extra weight on the motor case on the armature. Watch out when the armature comes off the input shaft. You can always cut the motor coupler with a dremel

I want to keep the motor. I just want to replace the brushes (which, I already did) but I can’t put the motor case back on with the armature on the shaft because of the brushes, can I?

Tie a rope around the armature so it wont hit the ground

There is a park position for the brushes. Park the brushes replace the housing and release the brushes. Problem solved. BTW you would have to do the same thing even if you did get the armature off the shaft.
