another fast in reverse thing
So as yall know ive been chasing little issues around my 89 DS ..
Little history .. New 6 new 6v batteries, new 0gauge wires between them, still waiting to make the rest of the cables from the switch to controller to motor to solenoid, new fr switch and i have load tested the batteries from the last issue with the low end shudder under power(which i may have figured out), Has the D&D +40 torque motor and from what i gathered like a 700amp controller unless i looked up the model incorrectly My question is though as many others have posted, in reverse this thing will literally do a burn out down the road .. can i just unmount the rearend and do a 180 with it so that my reverse is now forward and visa versa? or will the motor burn up faster because it now has a load on it the wrong way? im open to any ideas |

Re: another fast in reverse thing
Simpler than you think. It must be wired backwards (either at the F/R lever or on the motor). The carts are designed to go real slow backwards. Simplest fix is to swap the S1 & S2 (OR A1 & A2) motor cables. Be careful to use two wrenches on each motor post when undoing them and tightening - to avoid spinning or twisting any wires from the stud inside the motor.

Re: another fast in reverse thing
See now i have read this multiple times, but i dont see how changing the polarity of the motor would make it any faster?
and if i switch the s1 and s2 or the a1 and a2 its not goin to burn anything up is it? |

Re: another fast in reverse thing
You said it "burns rubber" in reverse...right? And you want it to "burn rubber" going forward...yes? Changing the motor polarity reverses that - so...fast in forward and slow in reverse.
No, you won't burn anything - that's how reverse is accomplished by the F/R lever - it physically reverses polarity on the motor. Make sure you detach your battery pack negative cable and wrap it in a cloth or something so there is no power or arcing possible when you swap them. |

Re: another fast in reverse thing
well i understand how the switch works but i didn't think switching the cables would make a difference .. if the motor only spun so much going one way how would it make a difference with the wires swapped.. guess im thinking to much into it .. ill give it a whirl.. now if i swap s1 and 2 and it doesn't change.. i presume i put them back and then swap a1 and a2 correct ?

Re: another fast in reverse thing
No - if S1 and S2 doesn't get you what you want - then A1 & A2 won't help because it is essentially the same thing. One reverses the field coil (which reverses polarity) and the other reverses the armature (which reverses polarity). Just pick one - and go with it.

Re: another fast in reverse thing
Don't forget to disconnect the pack before starting - that is the biggest cart killer around if you leave the pack connected while doing wiring changes.

Re: another fast in reverse thing
Also, that is only a solution if your cart is currently going in the opposite direction the FNR lever is pointing to, meaning it goes Forward when the lever in on Reverse.

Re: another fast in reverse thing
Come to think of it, he didn't say that - he just said his cart goes-like-the-wind backwards and is a slug going forward. What would he do to solve that Sergio - the cart appears to have aftermarket controller and motor.
