If there is no click, then you are missing the 48v + & - needed for the energizing coil to close in OR if you have them, the solenoid is stuck or has failed.
Measured 0V across small terminals of the solenoid while pressing the pedal. Don't know if this is helpful, but I also measured 48V across B+ and B- on the controller, in addition to what I posted above.

Can I be sure that the switch or the pedal is not the problem? Jump the two terminals of the key switch? How would I jump the pedal exactly?

If you had nothing coming from small posts/connectors when the wires were attached, then you need to take your DVM and trace back to where you are loosing it at. Where is the Neg coming from on your set up? I do not know scottyb's electrical lay out for his kits. But find which you are missing and trace backwards till you find the point that you gain it back and you will have your answer.

I am assuming his directions had an electrical schematic in it so I would start there.

Also contact scottyb to help you if you have too many problems since he supplied the kit and it is the resident expert on it.

Small neg on solenoid is connected to J1 (S-) on the controller.

I have a 36V solenoid (#120-117711) available. If I connected in place of the 48V solenoid, would this be helpful as a check without damaging the controller?

That initial short on the Controller J1 terminal when the diode was backwards and the pedal pressed (several times?) may have caused damage to that circuit.

Try running that small negative wire from the Solenoid directly to pack negative or Controller B- (instead of Controller J1).

Thanks for the suggestion. Neither of those connections worked.

That big spark that blew up your jumper wires when You powered the Solenoid during your previous test also happened the first time You pressed the pedal with all the wires in place to the Controller.

It may have taken out the Micro-switch in the throttle.

I think Scottyb may have a fuse in the Hall effect circuit but I am not sure.

If You don't see one in the wiring diagram, test to see if there is power going to the throttle.

How would I do this exactly? The diagram has a throttle circuit in the pedal spanning the controller B- and the key switch, with a third wire in the middle going to J5 (0-5V throttle signal).

There is a second circuit in the pedal that connects the solenoid small pos to the key switch (with a 2-3 amp fuse in between).

I think he combined the red and yellow wires into a single connection and added a fuse to prevent accidents like you just had.

Check that fuse.

Ok, that worked! But only temporarily. I backed it out of the garage, switched forward and reverse a few times because it was tight, and now the cart won't go again.

On the plus side, the solenoid clicks (getting 49V across the small terminals). What now?!

So both the Solenoid and the Reversing Contactor are still clicking as You press the pedal?

If not check the fuse again.
