New Batteries - part II (charger)
Ok, so I started a thread the other day about connecting my new batteries to my new-to-me 91 Club Car DS (resistor cart). I appreciate the help I received over there and, with it, I was able to get everything connected and running.
Now, my next hurdle... The cart came with what looks to be an older Lestronic II Charger...no timer and no lights. Once I got the cart running, I couldn’t resist the urge to cruise around the neighborhood. When I came home I put my multimeter on the pack and it read 19.2 I plugged in the charger and let it run overnight, at least 8 hrs...I checked with my multimeter in the morning and the reading I got was 19.8 Is this sounding normal so far?? I did order a voltmeter from Scottyb last night, so that’s on the way. When I plug the charger into the cart, and not the wall, I hear a *click*, so I guess that’s a good thing...but the needle on the ammeter on the front of the charger doesn’t get above 2-3 once I plug it into the wall. It’s also humming pretty loudly...which I suppose is also good; but I’m not convinced that means it’s 100% working. Is there anything else I should check? Or do I just need to be more patient and realize that this slow charge is normal? |

Re: New Batteries - part II (charger)
19.2 is considerably low. Are you sure you have all 6 batteries in series?
[B1+]<->(Cart/Pack Positive) Also Charger Positive Connection [B1-]<->[B2+] [B2-]<->[B3+] [B3-]<->[B4+] [B4-]<->[B5+] [B5-]<->[B6+] [B6-]<->(Cart/Pack Negative) Also Charger Negative Connection <-> Refers to Wire Connection It almost sounds like you are only using 3 or 4 of the 6 batteries. |

I used this wiring diagram: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/attac...re-diagram.pdf
I have the batteries wired negative to positive. But when I look at the above wiring diagram, it appears that it’s telling me to put the charging receptacle wire on the negative terminal of that left/front battery. You think it should be on the positive terminal? |

Charging Receptacle Positive connects to the right/front battery Positive Terminal. |

Re: New Batteries - part II (charger)
I take it back...I was putting my multimeter positive probe on the wrong post lol. So, now I get a reading of 38.7 which seems more accurate.
When I plugged my charger in, perhaps the batteries weren’t as dead as I thought which is why the ammeter needle wasn’t moving very far? I’m still curious about the charging receptacle being on the negative terminal of the front/left battery. Your comment about it needing to be on the positive isn’t the first time I’ve heard that. I just went with what the wiring Ingram said |

The charger positive wire goes to the FNR where the cable that connects to pack positive battery post (the one with the meter probe red #1 is shown). Edit: Battery #1 is the pack positive battery or the one with the meter probe red #1. |

My voltmeter shipped from scottyb, so I’m looking forward to having it show me what I’ve drained out in real-time lol |

Ok, so follow what Sergio says and you will be good. But 38.7 makes a ton more sense.

Re: New Batteries - part II (charger)
Your charger should normally go full amps when You first plug it in, regardless of how much You drove the cart.
When those old Ferroresonant chargers start to have low amp output, the issue is usually the 6MFD x 660VAC capacitor that regulates the charge profile. |

Re: New Batteries - part II (charger)
I just printed out the owners manual, it has some trouble shooting steps in it. I’ll get under the hood, so to speak, and see what I can find. Thanks!
