Shifter lever never loosened up
Last spring I did the "C54 conversion" from Cart's Unlimited. Everything is working perfectly and I am happy with how it turned out, with one exception. I was told that the F/R shifter would loosen up with use but after a year it is still extremely stiff, so much so that my wife needs to leave if in forward when she takes it. Eight months out of the year I use it to move trailers around my property, so it gets shifted from F/R and back at least a dozen times a day. Does anyone have an idea as to what I can do to loosen it up or does it need to be replaced?
Thanks |

Did you check with scottyb and see if he had a remedy? I am guessing he would have heard this before and have a possible fix. You can PM or email him while waiting to see if others have had the same issue and an appropriate fix.

My HD FR switch is still pretty stiff after 5 or 6 years! I believe you can loosen the center nut just a little but verify with Scotty. Also they sell a longer shift handle that might help, Caddy Shift I believe is what it's called.

Re: Shifter lever never loosened up
I'm all in favor of a longer shifter handle. If you loosen the nut it'll definitely be easier to shift, but only at the expense of the durability of the switch. The tighten the connection between the copper contacts on the back of the switch, the better the connection.

Re: Shifter lever never loosened up
He emailed me at the same time he posted this, I told him to put a little dielectric grease on the contacts and work it in, He relied almost immediately that that was the ticket - shifts easy now.
