Default 99 club car S2 stud spinning

I have a 99 club car electric that stopped running. The lug for the ground cable on the S2 stud on the motor broke. I went to replace the lug on the cable and noticed that the stud would spin. There were actually three nuts on the stud and an old lug still from a prior repair. Can that stud be replaced? Thanks

Your motor will need some serious repair at this point. Iíve tried fixing that myself but it often doesnít work. Some of the experts here will have some ideas.

The problem is that the Field coil lead is spot welded to the stud.

If there is any of the stud left, you can get a "repair stud" that bolts into the remaining threads.

If the coil lead wire came loose from the stud, a motor shop may be able to weld it back provided the wire did not brake far away from the stud.

Replacing the Field coil is not a cost effective solution.

You may want to talk to PlumQuick and see if they can do a Bandit upgrade and repair the motor at the same time.

Does it take much to pull the motor? Iíve never done much work on an electric cart

Itís not too hard on a club car- unless itís stuck on the shaft from rust, etc. Then itís impossibly hard!

Remove the three ⅞ head bolts around the motor rim on the differential side and remove the larger bolt on the L bracket on the bottom side of the motor.

Disconnect your cables first, being sure to hold the bolt under the cable with another wrench to keep the posts from turning (it may be a little late for that )

If all goes well the motor will slide off the shaft. Be careful- itís pretty heavy.

Let us know how it goes!

Luke

Got the motor off last night. It came off pretty easy. Since I have a 3 inch lift I didnít have to unbolt the springs or anything else. Iíll take it to a local shop that works on starters and see what they say. Thanks for the help
