Default Teach me about chargers

SO this is my current charger.. Ive gathered everything i need to go from 36 to 48 volts other then the charger and 2 more batteries...

I keep finding chargers with 3 pins..

My question is if i switch out the port on the cart, where does the 3rd pin go

Because trying to find a crow foot 48v manual charger is like a needle in a hay stack

I am not sure what you are asking, but the 3rd port as you call it is for the sense wire that ran to the '95-'13 OBC's on CC 48v models.

Most aftermarket chargers for non-OBC carts (they were bypassed and/or removed) still had the round plug, but the sense prong was not used as there were no sense/trigger mechanisms in these chargers. They simply worked as a fully automatic charger. The 3rd prong was wired into the (-) inside the plug on the pigtail.

You do not want a OEM Powerdrive unless you want to install an OBC for the cart. Just by you a used aftermarket charger or a new one and make sure it is for "Non OBC).

Revolution Golf Cars and Carts Unlimited have them.

A DPI has a 3 pin plug but only 2 are used. The 3rd pin is for an optional charger interlock. It prevents you from driving away with the charger plugged in.

all good info,,NoleFan.. i mean i keep seeing the charge ports on the charges that have 3 round pins instead of the 2 spade crow foot...

Now i believe i found what i need.. its like mine but a 48 volt and doesn't have an hour knob . guy wants 200 for it and said he will take 175

does this look corret? and OBC is the computer right.. cause i dont have one of those, the charge port goes straight to the batteries

Yes, that charger will work, but I would try to get him down more. You can buy a new Yewey style "smart" charger from scottyb for something like ~$230 or so...

That one there is an older charger and is older technology with who knows how many charges on its transformer.

And yes, OBC is the On Board Computer that runs the Powerdrive Charger and controls its algorithm.

That charger will work fine with what you're trying to accomplish, but like NoleFan said, it's old. It all depends on how much life is left in it as to whether or not it's worth the money.

Personally i'd trust the Lestronic over anything newer. We can fix those. Lately every newer car that comes in has one of those annoying disposable tiny chargers, even later DSs.

I agree, as long as you can get parts. I've tried to get parts for several older Lester chargers and couldn't get them.

Really? we got tons for parts and can get just about everything (timers, ammeters, diodes, transformers) from Nivel or Mad Jax.

Sadly, lately most of the chargers we deal with are the failure-prone PowerWise QE, PowerDrive 3 (which seems to stop working completely if you replace bad diodes) and whatever Yamaha Drives use. I despise disposable, non-fixable anything.
