Default Can I Switch to 4 12v's?

My 48v 2004 CC IQ is just about due for battery replacement. It's got 6, 8v's right now. Can i switch to 4, 12v's? I'm trying to free up some room in the battery well.

Also, what do you guys think about the gel (maint. free) battery's? I know nothing about them, other than they are more expensive. Opinions?

You are far better off buying the same type of battery. If you are talking about the trojan 12 volt cart batteries those will be alright...but your not going to gain any room and you will have to fabricate the trays. If your talking about 12 volt automotive batteries.....you can try but you will not like the run time and having to buy them 2 or 3 times as often.

Can you switch (or "Could" you switch) = YES

Should you switch? = NO

Club Car has gone back to six 8 volt batteries vs the four 12 volts. I'm happy with my four 12 volts BUT if I had a choice I'd stay with the six pack! I've attached a picture showing how much room one might have with four 12 volt batteries.

Both at 48v, you get longer run time with the 8v batts compared to the 12v batts I believe.

Twelves don't last as long.

Not to confuse the issue but it's just what I do.
You could go the other way (8 @ 6v).
Then you'd be talking some more run time.
