Motor post broke
This is my first cart. I picked a very used club cart from the beach area. I can’t find any VIN sticker so I don’t know exactly what year it is At first, I had no movement so I cleaned all of the battery contacts. Due to its life at the beach, there’s lots of corrosion. After cleaning the terminals on the batteries, it would move and then shudder. I read here that I needed to clean more connections at the motor, solenoid, controller, etc. I started to loosen the motor post for the orange wire. Apparently with the rust on it, I damaged something in the motor as the post now is loose, leans over and free spins.
Here’s the question, is there a way to repair this part or am I screwed and need an entire new motor? I couldn’t figure out how to add pics from my phone. They are too large. I tried to post a link to my pic on google drive but the site won’t let me. Thanks in advance. |

Re: Motor post broke
There should have been two nuts on there. The lower one you hold with open end wrench while loosing the top one. Motor is probably history.

Re: Motor post broke
Yes there were two nuts and I did hold the lower but when the upper nut got to stuck on the rusted part of the terminal post, the post spun in the lower nut.

Re: Motor post broke
Not history but could have done damage. It can be fixed but probably need to check out the motor anyway.

Re: Motor post broke
Most DIY folks can't fix it, but a good DC motor shop probably can repair it - you've broken a weld inside.

Re: Motor post broke
If the orange wire went to the S1, S2 or F1, F2 terminals the motor will have to to be repaired by a motor shop.
The stud that is spinning is connected to the field coils and will need special attachment procedures. Some have repaired this connection on their own but it's best left to a shop. If the orange wire went to the A1, A1 terminals then those studs can be replaced and most time they are included with a new brush set. Post the S# on the cart and that will help but a pic of the motor is best so we can be sure. If you planned an upgrade, now might be the time to do it. |

Re: Motor post broke
I removed the motor from my club car. The part number on the label on the motor is 101785702. It has a 10 spline female coupler and is 6.7 inches in diameter. A local shop here in San Diego said that they could send it out to be rebuilt for $400. I am assuming this would be to stock torque and horsepower. What I need is to be able to climb the hill on my driveway to get to the pool. It’s 200 feet at a more than 20 degree incline. Any suggestions? Does anyone know of a shop in the San Diego area that can rebuild it? Am I better off buying one online? Thanks.

Re: Motor post broke
Being its broke you can take it apart theres acouple small screws thats hold the bearing retainer on the closed end of motor. Its easy to take it apart alittle more tricky pulling the brushes back. Installing the armature i had the same thing happen to me but i had two wrenches on mine it was corrored and got hot .I was able to repair mine but my controller was toast did the shutter i thought it was the motor. If i were you i would take it apart to see the condition of motor to see if its bad or not.Its broke so you might as well learn. If you can fix it you can test it jump s2 to f1 take12 volt battery to s1 and f2 it should spin make sure its on the rear axle for test.
