Default CC Precedent- Speed

Gentlemen...

I'm new to your site, and new to owning a golf cart of any type. I recently bought a '14 Precedent with serial number beginning with "JE". I believe the motor to be an AMD Model # EJ8-4001A with a HP rating of 3.3. My cart has a 6" lift and 23" tires.

Currently I'm getting 17mhp out of her, but really would like to increase that from between 25-30mph. I have looked into the Code 5 programming unit, but the site states that it will not work with a "JE" prefixed number. I have not yet added a high speed magnet but soon will. Is there a similar device to the Code 5 that will give me the speed that I am looking for, or another inexpensive remedy for the mechanically challenged?

This is my first post and I hope it's in the right place. Please forgive me if it's not.

Thanks much!

Erik

Welcome to the site!

That is an I2/Excel cart so the speed magnet will not work on it. There is no "real" speed code 5, so even if it would say it worked, don't waste your money.

Speed Code 1 = 8 Mph
Speed Code 2 = 11 Mph
Speed Code 3 = 14.7 Mph
Speed Code 4 = 19.7 Mph (Private code)

With your 23" tires it will be a little faster then what you see here. You should have speed code 3 in your unit now.

The biggest bang for your buck right now would be an Alltrax XCT300 controller. That should put you close to your 25 if you have a strong pack and all is good with your cart. It will give you lots of User tunable opportunities with the Alltrax Tool Kit which is a free.

Ugh! That's what I was afraid of. The XCT300- Is that a direct replace part, or is it something that has to be wired in? If it direct replaces the existing controller can you guys tell me where it may be located? I couldn't see anything that looked like a controller. Also- If I have to spend $400- is there something of the sort (different controller) which will give me more speed in a slightly higher price range or would I have to jump up into motor replacement, etc?

Is there a way to change the speed setting from the stated 3 to 4 without other modification? Also- no chance any magnet exists for slight increase, huh?

Is this cart a problem (less customizable)?

Thanks again guys. I appreciate the help and your patience.

Oh- also...all new batteries

Right behind your battery tray. You have to remove the 2 middle batteries to access it If I have to spend $400- is there something of the sort (different controller) which will give me more speed in a slightly higher price range or would I have to jump up into motor replacement, etc? Go with the XCT-500 but it will have to be turned down or a replacement motor (Admiral A-2 or similar) as you will kill the stock AMD

Is there a way to change the speed setting from the stated 3 to 4 without other modification? Yes, and CC dealer can program it for you for about $100

Is this cart a problem (less customizable)? Pretty much just like an IQ cart, but in regards to the controller it looks at several motor parameters instead of just the speed sensor and is why they do not recommend high speed magnets for Excel's

Oh- also...all new batteriesThat is perfect for starting a new upgrade!
Okay

Sooo….. I'm sure there's not much to add to this....the responses seem pretty definitive, but if anyone has any other suggestions I'm all ears. Also.... anyone by chance in the Oxford/Auburn Hills area that works on these things or dealerships nearby that can program a Speed Code 4?

Don't waste your money on speed code 4. I too just purchased a JE Prescident. Getting ~16mph. Figured speed code 4 would get me to 20 and I'd be ok. Took to Club Car dealer and I already had speed code 4. After a little more research, I found out Speed Code 4 only allows the cart to go up to 19.6 (like if you are going down a grade). It does nothing to the motor or controller to get you any more speed generated by the cart. Luckily they didn't charge me. So far the controller and/or motor seem like the best options. Right now, I'm investing in things other than speed as 16 is OK for now. Highly recommend Dave at Revolution!

I have a 2008 precedent that struggled to get to 16. After consulting with David at Revolution, I got an Alltrax 400, new solenoid and 2 gauge welding cables. My cart w/ 20” tires will now go 26 mph on stock 3.3 motor. I was able to sell my 10 year old controller for 175 on eBay and when I sell my current motor, I’m going to upgrade to an admiral. I toyed with the idea of a speed magnet for only 30 bucks or speed code 4, but wanted the torque, acceleration and speed of a Real upgrade.
